I agree with this. If you've got to 40,000 miles and the car's 4 years old then there's not much point in starting with VW now, just make sure you only let VW specialists near it and you'll be fine.

The cambelt parts don't come as a kit for the GTi like they do for the other engines, you need to get the rollers/belt etc separately. Bit of a pain to be honest...

Had it serviced by VW biggest mistake i ever made now caught up in a legal battle as they haven't done all of the work absolute nightmare if can't even trust the manufacturers who can you trust?

That's bad to hear hope you get that all sorted mate I don't trust dealers anyway just find a nice reliable independent garage

That's an interesting read and example of shoddy dealership work. This is disappointing since I had such good faith in the vw dealers but when I think about it ours is very much the same.

I hope you get this sorted mate especially gutting considering the price that you have paid

Christ, just had a look at your post there, didn't realise there was a forum dedicated to that dealership! Really sorry to hear that you're having such a time of it with them. They are complete idiots, no question about it. Surely if they've billed you for the parts then they would have no problem giving them to you or refunding the cost of the extra parts?

I had a similar full service and cambelt change a few weeks ago on my 57 plate car. I was told that ALL filters would be changed but I have a terrible feeling that I forgot to check my service book to confirm this... I'll have a look on Saturday and get back to you.

I doubt they'll bother calling you back, start writing emails to them on a daily basis if necessary. Build up the proof that they are ignoring your correspondence and that your story is staying consistent. When they damaged mine I sat in the service reception at collection time and loudly announced to the receptionist that I wanted to see the manager with regard to damage to my car. I've never seen a manager come out of their office so quickly in my life...

VW. Been waiting a week for a response had a call from a relationship manager yesterday who is now taking my case up with the dealership as they do not want to speak with me looks as though as they are in the wrong the manager didn't have decency to even come out and speak to me at on a Monday spineless on their part lets hope the letter to the managing director gets noticed I just want what I paid for now I've been kept waiting I will be claiming compensation

Just had a quick check of my invoice, and mine definitely had the air, oil and poller filters changed, but the fuel filter wasn't either. That said, I was only charged for stuff that actually went onto my car...

Looks like they may be correct about the fuel filter not needing replacement then, but the air filter seems a bit suspect, my car's only done 27,000 miles and it was replaced so would expect yours to need doing as well.

Well the fuel filter change is part of the package regardless if it needs to be changed or not it should have been done

This is exactly why you never, ever service your car at VW...only exception is if it's in the warranty period, but you don't need to - your warranty is still valid.

They're a bunch of idiots. Kept on denying there was a fault when there blatantly was (under warranty), so ended up fixing a few little niggles myself for free. They also "kept" my wheel lock key, and I didn't find this out until a few months later when I needed it, by which time it was too late. I've always used Bosch Service centres after my warranty expired - actually fix the problem and don't rip you off. Had the cambelt, water pump, coolant and oil changed + MOT and oil + fuel system cleaner done on my TDI for under £400 all in a month ago.

You can save quite a bit doing stuff yourself. The only thing I'll get done at the garage is oil changes. I alternate between £30 odd oil changes and minor service (oil change + xxx point check) every year. The only thing they do on the major service (on TDIs) is air, fuel and cabin filters - all these take less than 5 minutes and a screwdriver to do on your own. Can't imagine changing a spark plug is too hard either (never worked on a petrol engine).

FVWSH is overrated.

cut a long story short booked a full service with VW they didn't change the air filter or fuel filter but charge for it. Then argue that i need to pay for those parts again so much hassle not worth going to service your car if they don't do what you have already paid them for

Yeah I saw the original problem just meant what they'd done to sort it/ compensate you

they said they will carry the works out only no compensation i work in contract law and have a litigation lawyer as a contact i sent them one final letter but to be honest no point in to issue a summon to a small claims court as they said they carry out the works the judge would just throw the case out and i'd have to pay their legal costs even though they are in breach of contract i've booked my car in and going to hope for the best
