"Lip on the disc or pad"
Re: "Lip on the disc or pad"
Should I get the front and back done at the same time even if they only mentioned the front brakes?

Re: "Lip on the disc or pad"
It's not a difficult job, just be careful because some of the bolts can be a bit stuck as they are covered with road spray/grime all the time. It's basically: calliper off, replace brake disc, push piston back into calliper a bit, fit new pads and reassemble. The rears need a special tool to wind the piston back but the rest of the process is the same.
The fronts do most of the braking, so they wear out first. If the backs appear worn, then you could change them, but they'll probably be alright. Make sure there's no lip/scoring on the discs though.
I've got a set of discs and pads waiting to go on mine as well. Tried to quickly get them done a couple of months ago but didn't have the time to deal with seized calliper bolts
Budget a good few hours to do it - no point rushing with brakes. It's not a hard job but worth taking the time to make sure its done correctly.

Might just do the front then!
We should both do our brakes and get them done!
Saying that I'd a puncture last month and the rear wheel wouldn't come off . . .i'd to take it to a garage so I'm sure I won't be able to get the front ones off or the callipers seizing as you say would be even worse!!!

Get a rubber mallet. Fantastic tool. Remove the wheel bolts and give the back of the rim a few good whacks. Should loosen it sufficiently to get it off. Then get a bit of copper grease on the bit of the hub which goes into the centre bore of the wheel and it should be ok next time.aaronon wrote:Saying that I'd a puncture last month and the rear wheel wouldn't come off . . .i'd to take it to a garage so I'm sure I won't be able to get the front ones off or the callipers seizing as you say would be even worse!!!
Yeah, I need to get mine done! It's safe to drive but needs doing soon anyway... Hopefully I'll have time when I get my summer wheels on, but at this rate that's looking to be a while off...
Re: "Lip on the disc or pad"
I got new pads and discs
:D Are these the same as yours ? He looked my model up in the book, and then also had a look through the alloys and said these were the ones. . .but reading the side it just mentions Seat so I'm afraid to brake (pun intended
) the seal incase they're wrong. Any ideas? It also says "full axel set" so I assume there is four in the box. . .2 for each front wheel

Where did you get them from? I got mine from TPS so they are in a VW labelled box, but so long as the ones you have have a wire for the pad wear indicator then they should be fine. VAG interchange parts all the time between various cars so they should be alright.
I reckon 'full axle set' means that there's 4 in the box as well.

Vw seat it's all the same. Axel pair means you'll get everything to do one axle so these will be the four that you need!

I got them at auto parts.
Ok thanks. I'm sure I'll soon see if they don't fit haha
