lucky lil bugger, u think theres any chance they will sell the badge?

I think it's a very good price, compared to the Polo range that is. It's only £1000 more than the 1.9 sport.
It has the PD130 engine, which I'm guessing is the same as the golf engine not a tuned up PD100?? a Six speed box and climatronic as standard.

Of course the main thing is it's faster than the Fabia RS

Just £2000 more... for pretty much the same thing but with a VW badge and Better looks IMO.

If only the facelift wasn't just around the corner...

TBH I don't think we'll be seeing a facelift until at least 2006-2007. I don't think VW have said there will be a facelift and you should really take what car magazines say with a pinch of salt. After all they only get there information from gossip/own opinions at the end of the day.

Also, you have to question the financial viability of launching/promoting a new Sport range then 12 months down the line doing the same thing all over again...

I'm seriously considering it.

I've been very tempted at the CTR for a while, but the insurance (group 17?) is just too much right now, and you only get 34 mpg...

Hopefully the GT will be group 13 or less? and 55mpg is very tempting. If they brought out the GT with the fsi engine from the Golf... now that would be something.

Strategically, the much-rumoured facelift next spring makes sense. With the Tupi and new Passat coming in around that time, the absense of a facelift would leave the Polo as the oldest model on the range (or would that be the touraeg?)

Now that the 130 TDi is on the way the Chzeck heads and Seat lovers cant go on and on about how much better those cars are compared to the Polo. yes the Polo is a bit more and no your now paying for the badge. As for the facelift, im sure VW have another money makin scheme up their sleeves so watch that space. I'dd prefer the diesel to the forthcoming GTi anyway because petrol is 83p and diesels are a lot cheaper to run without comprimising on performance.

I think you will find that at least with skodas figure that it is for 0 - 62mph (or 100kph) and not 0 -60 so that explains the .3 difference (not that you would notice it anyway given how short a time 0.3 seconds is).

Still for all that extra money you get climate control over air con and two less doors, Bargain!!!
You can spend your £14,125 if you like but I think I'll stick with my £11,990 version thanks all the same.

I would imagine the Polo may be slightly heavier than the other 2 so in reality probably slower, but yeah .3 seconds does not mean anything does it.

I know Josh was thinking of getting the Fabia vRS at one point, I wonder if this would change his mind

You will get the GT Seats, Interior, Badges, Smoked lights and a few other things to add to the spec too.

I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend on the car. Although it would make an interesting shootout, rolling road/track between all 3??

Now I know some may say "ooh look the Seat looks more menacing" but that becuase the Cupra people take that off Seat and beef it up themselves. The bad thing about VW is they know they are going to sell anyway so they can do what they want.

The Ibiza Cupra R is going to be a 160bhp 1.9TDi and will come with ABS and TCS and ESP as an option(which you have to get) It will also come with 17" alloys Brembos and a bodykit. Funnily enough that also comes out in August

I actually think that the Polo given the Caractere kit looks better than the Ibiza to be honest. The problem is what you dont get under the bonnet. The Seat's always seem to get the more powerful engines plus better suspension and brakes. I dont mind paying a bit extra for the VW finish but not when it's at the expense of performance like it is with VAG cars at the moment.

I know the Polo GT is cheaper than the cupra but if there were the option to have the Polo with the Cupra performance upgrades(engine, suspension, brakes ,etc) then I'd happily pay that bit more.

Whats you said is true bit dont forget the Cupra people beef up the Ibiza to make it look like that. VW should get themselves one of those. The problem is evident from the very start, walk into a VW garage and you have to go looking for salesmen-women and they seen like they dont really care that much. Walk into a Seat garage and see the difference. Can a couple of people try this and see what i mean becuase it has happened too many times for it to be a coincidence

Cardiff Volkswagon will have a GT first week of July.
They've said I could test drive it during the second week of July!

Well cool. They think it may also have traction control as standard.

In the interest of discussion.... Isn't this what they did with the 6n2? lauch a GTi to shift the last of the bodyshells/parts and then bring in a new model...
