Just had a thought.
I have older style r line with "daytime running lights" as dipped beam and sidelights - will this switch turn those off all the time (thus making it illegal)?

No it will not do anything about the dipped beam as DRL.
but doesn't the R-Line always come with front fogs with DRL as standard?

Sadly not, I only have 1 bulb in my fogs that comes on when I take corners or turn the fog lights on my day time lights are side lights and dipped beam on very low power. my worry is that this will turn my drl all together is there anyway I can code my car to use fogs as drl or upgrade to 6c fogs?

Yes, it's always possible to retrofit the DRL in the bumper. It's not very difficult, you'll have to run a few wires from the fogs in the engine compartment to the dash area. There are some wiring sets available that do that.
I think they will go into the BCM, but i'm not sure exactly. But you'll need a new set of fog light units, I think, since yours don't have the hole for the DRL bulbs.
So for an OEM, legal DRL retrofit you'll need:
- 2 bulbs
- 2 bulb holders
- wiring set
- 2 fog light units
Some basic knowledge of installing this is necessary. And I think you'll need VCDS to activate the DRL and de-activate your current DRL.
Do it's not what you'd call cheap.
Since you have cornering lights, you could technically use them as DRL with a VCDS change, but I'm not sure how legal it is. Here in Switzerland it's not an I guess it isn't either in the UK. Because the fog light units don't have the correct engravement, they are not homolgated as DRL units. And running front fogs without fog is not allowed here.

Thank you for answering my questions! So just to summarise this kit will work just fine it will still give me my daytime lights (dipped and sidelight at low power) then will activate my dipped (at full power) when in the dark?

Try isolating TFL pin

You can use a tiny piece of eletrical tape to isolate it.
