I don't actually know if it will adapt in normal driving - Alex will be able to advise better that me.
I would focus on getting the car running properly again, before you start changing things and potentially introducing new issues
Good luck

It won't properly adapt through normal driving
Take the negative battery terminal off for 20 mins and put it back on and it'll reset it

It's one of the few things that will reset with the battery off

Out of scientific curiosity and bone idleness I didn't give it the hard reset but kept using it daily to see what it would do.
Over the week it has incrementally reduced idle speed, we are now at 700static/1150rolling which is quite driveable.
I never noticed the obvious static/rolling idle difference before the car threw it's toys out, so dunno what's changed.
Also it smells rich and is more stall resistant which suits the L plate driver.
Actually it's like driving a car with the choke on (Oi, grandad, what's a choke)
Anyway it now works so crisis averted.

Glad you got it running ok

When I cleaned out my egr valve - I also cleaned out the throttle body (it was really dirty !) - but I did not elec disconnected it - I placed a plastic tub in the engine bay and cleaned it out in situ - seemed to work ok

Car engine has been running nicely since.
Leaving it connected means it does not have to relearn or need a reset.
