After my BMC air filter and my 17"'s i get **** mileage hah
i havent measured it coz im a lazy mofo, but i swear its only around the 250 mark per tank !!

Exactly the same with me.
About 250 to a tank with the 17's on. I think its down to the wheels.

Crikey - think i must drive like a Lass!! From full i get about 310 miles before the light comes on - about 38 mpg i think. I reckon i could get more if i drove normal (i do speed - honest!).
- thats on normal unleaded!.......definately going to try out the Shell stuff after reading the posts!!.....can't wait.

You have a good point - however it's not the wheel diameter it's the width of the tyres wrapped arround them
On my Senator 3.0 24V I used to get 38mpg on a run with 15's (205/65) but when I swapped the wheels to 17's (235/45) it dropped to closer to 32mpg - I didn't drive it harder or softer either. The wheels stayed on for a year or two till I found a set of 16's so I could run narrower tyres (225/55) and it's settled down between the two figures. To be honest it handles better on 15's or 16's the tramlining on 17's is awfull.
I can't tell you what difference it makes on my Lotus it's fitted with 17's std and 265/40 tyres but the best I can get out of that is 33mpg (the worst round Silverstone was 9mpg ) and most of the time it averages 22-24mpg.

At the last fill I had nearly 280 miles from a tank of fuel, just coming down into the red, but the light wasn't on. Not too bad. Mostly town driving, with about 100 miles of fast A-road action over the course of those 280 miles. Should be at least as much out of the Shell fuel!

I cry when it goes below 30mpg
That means either the engines gone duff, or has recieved an undue thrashing
Though TBH anything more than 45 is also a cause for celebration. It seems to live happily in the 40-zone. Very odd. Probably to do with driving style... generally accelerating around the torque area at full throttle on every take off (yeah, think I need a more powerful car!) and then crusing
normally cruising at 70-75 mph - anything over that and the thing chews through fuel!!!
Well, speed = negative economy after all.
If we consider:
Power needed at 70mph - 27.2hp
Power needed at 80mph - 35.5hp (approx

)
and at 90mph - 45hp
Power is energy used per second, wheras your speed is distance travelled per second - if we assume that the engine is pulling the same amount of energy out of each gallon (unrealistic but bear with me), then it follows that you can work out gallons per mile from that... or, miles per gallon.
Assuming mpg at 70mph is, i dunno, 40mpg...
70/27.2 = 2.57
80/35.5 = 2.25
90/45 = 2.0
40 * 2.25 / 2.57 = 35mpg
40 * 2.0 / 2.57 = 31mpg
Hmmm not so big an effect as i'd hoped, but you can still see economy at 90 = 3/4 that of at 70mph, and in real life it should be worse still as your engine is operating at a less efficient speed.
Er.

I'm lucky if I can scrape past 40 mpg still, driving as I usually do I tend to get more like 35

Really can't work out what's wrong with it, I'm sure I should be getting more out of it.. All I can think of is that the carb needs a retune, but I'm sure that wouldn't affect it so badly..

On my GTi I used to get 280 miles to a tank of fuel... Optimax, Esso 95 RON, Shell 95 RON etc etc...
I could never get better than that, and it has been known to go as low as 225 miles!!!
I now get about 310+ miles out of my Fabia (same size tank - 45l... although it only usually takes 35 litres to fill it) but that's running 180 BHP and 315 LBFT... lol
On a recent run down to Southampton and back, I did 470 miles to £38 worth of Derv.

I guess I don't do so badly in mine, I get roughly 310-320 miles to a tank...I seems to get more with Optimax...
Josh, thats damn good mpg, power and economy all in one...

I filled my car to the brim with BP Ultimate yesterday and ive done over 260 miles on half a tank.
Bad part was when i accelerated the car whistled really loud (so loud i couldnt hear the exhaust) Only from 2k rpm though. only started 20mins after filling up.
