Thanks for these words of encouragement - I must admit the uk-polo site can be a bit gloom and doom. The majority of seatcupra.net people seem to enthuse (rant and rave) about their Seats and live with the niggly problems.
My view is that if you want ultra-reliable, buy Japanese - but most affordable Jap cars have very little character. Prior to my Seat I always had Jap cars - now I think I'll stick to VAG cause I like the 'feel' of the cars - even a 'cheapy' Polo has a certain feel good factor.
Anyway, regarding your comment, if you look at the top of this post, you'll see my Polo is a 52 reg - isnt that an 'early' one for a 9N shape - ie will I be lucky to be trouble free .....
ps - I've now driven the car for a week (mainly local with some experimental driving, fast and slow ...) - my mpg is showing 54.6mpg !
