So I did this gearbox/engine mount today with a help of a friend.

I purchased a Febi replacement unit. It was the only name brand item available.
I went with the diesel mount. Only 1 in stock compared to the non-diesel mounts.

Price was half that of the VW unit, but the VW supplied unit would take time to deliver from Germany. Surprised VW don't carry this locally.

First off, the replacement mount has flanges made of several pieces of metal welded together whereas the OEM mount looks like a single piece of plate.
It looks stronger than the single piece of plate.
However, one weld is just badly placed. I had to grind down the weld as it was too close to one of the bolt holes causing the bolt to not seat flush.

Then things became tough during installation as the flanges were not straight. I had to wedge in a screwdriver and tighten down the bolts so that the retaining nuts were perpendicular to the flange.
The hole for the bolt under the fuse box is also not centred like the factory mount. We ground that out a little by hand, but during the process cross-threaded that bolt. Lucky I had a 10x1.5 tap and cleaned up the retaining nut.

It took a bit of fiddling to line all the bolts up and we just weren't interested in lowering the gearbox far enough to get a torque wrench in there.
The top accessible bolts got their torque spec, but the flange bolts received German-grade torque figures: Gutentight.

Yeah, the Febi unit is wack, but what a difference a new mount makes. No more shunting when driving. No feeling of engine slamming back and forth. No extra vibration either.
If I had the time and money I would go with the OEM mount from VW. Would probably avoid the fitment issues. No Lemforder or Meyle here.

Vibra Technics dogbone will go in next week.

That seems to have been a bit annoying, I don't think that anyone would have expected that from Febi, maybe some funky Feeby lookie likie stuff being sold around the world!

Just one comment, ALL the bolts associated with that rear/top gearbox mounting are "torqued to yield" so should not be reused as they have been stretched slightly, so will now have stretched more when being re-torqued.

Having said that, I know that VW used new bolts the first time they removed the original mounting on my wife's 2015 Polo under warranty, well the job sheet listed them, the second time, ie the time that they actually gave in and fitted a new version from the TDI Polo, there was only a new mount listed in the job sheet! Gearbox fit in car so maybe all is good!

Okay, this is the wrong place/topic to mention this, but I will do anyway.
When I replaced the front lower arm/wishbone rear mountings back in late July this year, the lefthand side rear mounting was still okay - it had been replaced as it had ended up being torn while within warranty, the righthand side rear mounting, I thought had just had its central metal bush broken free from the rubber, but what had happened was that the central metal bush, because of the rubber and the arm moving relative to it, had permanently deformed the rubber and there was now a permanent air gap of maybe 4mm at the upper side and the lower side where the centre metal bush was moving right<>left as the lower arm was being displaced up and down by the suspension. Obviously there was no clearance fore<>aft on that mounting. So, while the mounting design means that the centre metal bush should stay bonded to the rubber, and the 2 voids in the rubber should allow the lower arm to flex but not deform permanently or tear during suspension movements, for that bush, at some point in its 9 years 50,000miles life, the rubber had become seriously hard and this permanent deformation had started to take place leading to some noises during suspension compression/decompression.
Just something to watch out for, and maybe even something that can affect the solid Audi TT ect version of that rear mounting.

I avoid as much as possible Febi product.

Quality seems not bad, but nor regular.
Concerning engine mount, I went for Lemforder one, diesel version: much harder.

But even with this bad boy, I have engine jerking.
But when I try to move engine in the egine bay: it doesn't move.
