That's why, for the next year I will ask for a replacement.

These "remote" water pumps with their own small drive belt should or could last a lot longer than the older type which ended up bearing the load of the other components in the cambelt drive train, which typically killed them quite early in life, or at least when compared with any situation where they had there own dedicated light weight drive system.

I called another VW dealer yesterday, he said VW had changed the directive on the Cambelt change, it is no longer 5yrs, but 140k miles. I asked why, he said when the belts have been inspected in cars, they always look like new at 5yrs!

Not before time.

A member on the AudiSport forum posted a very similar message this week, so it does look as though VAG UK has finally fallen in line with VAG AG (the manufacturer) and all other VAG distributors world-wide. The 5 year change interval was unique to the UK, and had no justification.

And you know why only VAG UK interval was 5 years ?
