Those ones like you get from ecp are very poor. I tried one and took it back because it was nothing like i was after. They are designed for the Mk 2 which got the 3F engine (maybe in europe) so are shorter and the wrong shape too. Plus they are mild steel and don't have a lambda boss either. I think you would be dissapointed if you bought one and tried fitting it.
Hence the reason I started doing proper ones fit for the purpose and made to fit properly and last for a long time.
I will get a picture of the two for comparison.

i would quite like to see a picture of the 2, i was just flicking through the catalogue and spotted it, it does say though its for cars 91 onwards so surely a mk3?

The thought currently running through my mind is that perhaps they seem too short because they are better suited to the hatchback, which I am led to believe requires a slightly longer exhaust than the coupe. This may just be down to the length of the tailpipe however.
Not meaning to diss your efforts hardhitter, but if I can find a cheap de-cat pipe locally without having to exchange via post then I would much rather do this.
Otherwise, I may well be in touch!!
*Have heard that Ernst are almost as good quality as original VW stuff, tho would be interested to see a comparison!!

They may have been fitted to some early mk3's but not over here. So if you look on ETKA or an exhaust catalogue you will see they are different. The downpipe is shorter on non-cat models and there is a corrugated (sp?) section pipe betweeen that and the middle section which is different too because it's shorter and has no flexi join (the corrugated bits is supposed to do that). It's how the mk 2's were.
So if you wanted to properly fit that downpipe you would need:
the downpipe with a hole made and lambda boss welded in
corrugated section
shorter middle section
the clamps which are smaller because the pipe is (hence more restrictive)
The runners on the one I got from ecp were slightly more narrow than the ones i do, too.
It's up to you which you go for, but work out which one will cost you cost you the most.....

Like i said dan, i would happily take one off you, tho it's gonna mean my car being immobile for a few days whilst we swap downpipes - isn't it??
Do you basically just weld a length of stainless to the exchange exhaust??
