And I may be in Glasgow in the next few days... maybe.

for fast punchy music i would buy a 10" as they return flex quicker.
the 12" is for long deep bass like rock music, but prob will have trouble with fast punchy music.
thats what i have been told by the "Fuel boys" at a show. they hare the coolest chaps, they even offered to sponsor my car 8)

but time will tell

You also have to take into consideration the surround size and spider.

Bigger subs generally move more, which is what gives you your hard, deep bass. but because of this the take slightly longer to travel meaning they wont react to changes in note as quick as a smaller sub.

Take Fuel's cars for instance. 6 x 18" subs which drown out the noise from a Jet engined drag car, but cant play normal music because they lose track of the beat.

to be honest the biggest really needed is a 12". IMHO anything bigger is for Audiophile's that listen to rap or hip hop or competition use.

My mate has a 12" sub and he only listens to dance music. It sounds fine to me, but my personal opinion would be go for a 10". Remeber the sound come from the sub into the car, some cars are better for sound than other cars. But hey you've got a VW so that shouldnt matter too much.

At the end of the day a 14" can play r'n'b well but can it play dance music well? A 10" can plan both well!

i just bought one to make some noise
never realised different sizes suited different genre of music,
i listen to mostly rap, hip-hop hope 12 is adequate, sounds abit too bassy sometimes especially when you get in the car after a hard days work and turn the cd player on and realise you never turned it down before you got out earlier!
