Hi, brand new on this forum and just stumbled across this thread.

Apologies if this mod has already been covered by others but maybe you will be interested. I hated the drl function on the Polo so did a bit of digging about a year or so back.

I swapped out the OME fogs for identical looking units which have fogs and drls. Got them from HZ designs, German ebay company, ebay no191140365988. They accepted an offer of £70 the pair delivered and are every bit as good as OME. Also supplied the drl bulb holders for €25.

I cut the drl feed wire at the back of the switch, grey/violet at position 3 (I think but it's easy to identify with a circuit tester), then connected a new wire to the switch side, fed it through the bonnet release cable grommet to the new lights, picking up an earth under the bonnet.

At this stage I had the led DRLs working (no dip beam) but the front and rear side lights and number plate lights were still on.

With VCDS had lights recoded in BCM so that parking lights with "terminal 15 on" was switched off. This switches off sides in some Polo's apparently but unfortunately not in mine (10 plate moda).

After a bit of probing with the circuit tester at the back of the switch I found the feed. As you look at the back of the switch, with the grooves facing down, 4th pin from the right on the bottom row is the culprit. Bent that back and eventually got 'proper' drl function.

Now only the leds in the fog light housing work when the switch is off, all other lights, including sides, number plate, panel and fog work as they should. All in, including led bulbs (60 bulb 21w replacements) about £120. Looks identical to the OME lights fitted to most Polos I've seen on the continent.

My car had fogs to start with so I didn't need shrouds etc.

Good job on the modification!

I have a 2010 moda and through VCDS I managed to disable the side lights and rears through the 'terminal 15 on' de-selected, strange that it didnt work for you.

The rear plate light can be disabled by bending back or covering pin '6' on the switch. Any pictures ?

Welcome to the forum!

Yep, it was weird, initially my sides and number plate lights were on even when the switch was removed! Thought it had beaten me but I got there in the end.

Car's not here at the moment but I will try and upload some - when it's looking clean.

Hi I fitted these drls this morning, just one question what bonding kit have others been using? I have ordered one from VW but I don't know how much of the unit will bond with the bumper.

I have the Official VW DRL LEDs working as described.

For UK polo 6R's

1) Bend or insulate pin '3' = Disables low beam DRL function at switch position '0'
2) Bend or insulate pin '6' = Disables plate lights at switch position '0'
3) VAGCOM 'turn off parking/side lights at position 15' = Disables front & back parking/side lights at position '0'

Standalone, without the LED DRL's fitted the above steps provides a vehicle without any DRL function, at switch position '0' the car has no lights active.

If you do not have the LED DRL's,You can still do step 2) & 3) and have a more 'true' DRL function which would have only the low beam active, no plate lights, and no rear reds.

I have ordered the adhesive kit for the bumper modification and plan to fit the LED's next week. I am currently running the car without any DRL function and have already been asked from a fellow 6R driver how I did this in the supermarket car park :D

Also, with the LED DRL, there is a 2 wire 'loop' where you can select different function, there is 3 options :

1) LED DRL OFF when side light or low beam ON
2) LED DRL 50% power when side light or low beam ON
3) LED DRL 100% power when side or low beam ON

I think I'll choose option 1

Thank you ciclo!
How did you get on with the adhesive kit? I tried to use some standard ultra strength bonding glue which didn't work.

Found the kit very messy and pussy - There is alot of 'spare space' where the black mold surround fits onto the bumper itself..... I tried to spread it on and make sure there was as much contact as possible. once on and solid it wont budge, but remember to clean/trim off any extra immediately.
