What is important is the length. Is determined by the wavelength that has to receive. 15-20 cm is sufficient.

I have resolded again everything this weekend and the signal is bit better but not perfect. Just one question this cable soldered on the top of 15-20 cm the oposite end to the soldered end needs to be peeled with the copper wires expose or leave it with the plastic cover? As main i left with about 1 cm of copered cable showing on the top.

We got the same Polo R-line for the mrs. last year. She loves it more then me
Quick question about auto lights. My high beams are not engaging anymore after this. I can only flash people with them but cant switch them on to stay.
Is it something I did wrong? I have all the coding done and byte 23 is selected for alternative voltage for high beams and terminal 58d.
Our polo is 2013 with bi xenons, rain sensor, fog lights.

About automatic lights:
Did you do your wiring or you bought it somewhere?

I did my wiring and all the lights work perfectly. My r-line is 2013.

When I bought my Polo installed automatic lights and everything worked perfectly. I have recently redone the installation so that the parts are OEM, also everything works perfectly.

Thank you for your reply.
I did my own wiring using two OEM 381 relays (old type) and then I changed them to micro OEM 646 relays per your setup.
Unfortunately using the 646 relays possibly fried my headlight switch as as soon as I switched on fog lights I could smell burning smell from headlight switch . Before that I tried high beams and they still wouldnt work ( only work when pulling stalk not pushing away).
Im really puzzled as not sure what can it be.
I know relays 381 have diode in them but it doesnt seem relays 646 have them.

The 646 relay also has diode. You see it in this picture, above the coil.



Your problem is that you have connected the wires wrong when changing from one support to another .. Check the installation again, you also have to check the light switch and the relays have not been damaged.

You'll have a blown fuse.

The type of relay does not influence provided they are of the correct amps.
If the old relays working properly, the 646 should be equal or better.

My old 645 relay warming considerably more than the new 646.

If I may make a comment to clarify the picture of the relay above.

The symbol on that relay is only a resistor fitted to stop any large voltage spikes across the coil.

The rectangular box is an alternative to the usual wavy line symbol for a resistor.

If there was a diode inside, it would be drawn in the normal manner with the triangle and bar as per symbol in above link.

The resistors are not as effective as the diodes, but perform the same function. Avoid voltage spikes when the magnetic field of the coil is reversed.

I shall double check my wiring again and relays too.
I reverted back to original headlight switch setup and everything works fine (high beams and fogs etc)

Very strange issue I must say.
Maybe the switch itself was dodgy?
Hope I will get it sorted as mrs loves that auto light feature.
Wont move on to other mods until I sort this

By if it helps I have two switches, one I bought in the official dealer (Spain) 3C8 941 431 A XSH and another purchased on aliexpress (China) 5ND 941 431 B XSH.

Both OEM work properly.

I Can Tel you that the lightswitch from a Golf Mk 5 with auto function does not work. It has to be the Passat switch. (The one that start with 3C in the partnumber.)

Watcher and I tried mine from a Passat and one he had from a Golf mk 5. And the Mk 5 switch just didn't work while my Passat switch worked perfectly.

Don't have the number for it though...
