Martin-GTi wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2019 9:49 pm I took delivery of my new 2019 GTI+ at 5:00pm today. That was after a few hours of paperwork, trade-in finalisation, other paperwork, etc. I declined their ‘invitation’ to have a series of photos taken for their Facebook account and website, and felt the grand ‘uncovering’ was pointless. After almost a year of waiting, I just wanted the keys and to be able to drive it.

I’ve only done 15 miles so far, but love it! I have the Brescia wheels (which look amazing) and was worried it’d be too firm, but the suspension is compliant and comfortable. It’s sporty and firm, but not harsh. Tyre noise isn’t great, but I’ll change the tyres at some point.

As it’s new, I’m driving in ‘D’ mode and taking it easy. It changes gear earlier than I’d expect, but I’m not pushing the throttle too hard (yet) & am new to DSG, so early gear changes might be ‘user error’.

I’ll clock-up some miles tomorrow....... 😀
Just don't wait too long to change the tyres, they really spoil the car. VW should hang their heads in shame for putting such unsuitable rubber on a hot hatch. Bridgestone should be done for false advertising to be masquerading as a premium tyre manufacturer.

I've got 8 Bridgestone tyres at home taking up room (4 each off my Golf R and Polo). I'd like to take them to the Wolfsburg HQ, pile them up in view of the main entrance and set light to them. Maybe VW would take the hint not to choose them in future - had them on 3 Golf's and my Polo.

Anyway...enjoy the car, then feel like you got a new car again when you change the tyres - less tramping, less noise, more traction, more grip, softer and more compliant ride.
Thanks monkeyhanger.

I’m a member of Costco and they have a deal on at the moment for Michelin tyres - £80 off if you purchase four. Can I just check - I’m sure I’ve read in one of your posts that you had to do something to the wheel arches to accommodate the width of 225 tyres. Can you explain what you had to do?

I’ve really got used to the car today. Feels so solid, well put together, and I have no doubts I’ve made the right purchase. The LED headlights might be set a little too high as I’ve been flashed by oncoming drivers a few times - but they’re excellent. It’s been years since I’ve smiled so much whilst driving a car.

^ My wheel arch lining on the rear passenger side was very close to rubbing on the standard tyre width on my car (Only about 5mm clearance on the tyres inside edge). The lining was bowed out, so I made a slight adjustment to it to bring in the bowing out.

Just as likely to be on the opposite rear arch if the lining was creased or not fitted properly.

Costco won't fit them, you'll have to buy for £8.50 cheaper each than the fitted price for supply only and have somewhere else fit them. They'll only replace 215s with 215s even though the fitted was in full agreement with me that there's no issue - company policies.

Back onto delivery topics here.
I got stage 5a on 13th March, but according to VW customer service, I haven't been allocated a ship yet.
Maybe we aren't on Glovis Spring as originally thought?

My car was meant to have been built last week but it's status hasn't changed on the tracker yet, does it only update only certain days?

Starting to wonder if my car is on the Glovis Spring as well. My dealer said 'the car is likely' to be on that ship but I haven't actually had confirmation that it is. Would be pretty gutted if it's not as I've been tracking it for two weeks!

Tracker updated on the 7th of March to say In Transit and the Glovis Spring was in Port Elizabeth on the 12th of March. All guess work I suppose.

Do we know of any other vehicle carriers going from that port in the last week or so?
I'm not sure where to look and can only track where ships are now, which isn't great.

Been a long time since I have logged on to this forum as I have a 2016 Polo GTI which is now just over 3 years old and I am thinking about changing it for another one as the new one seems to be better in almost every area.

Without going through most of the pages on here, looking at the last few pages at least, am I correct in saying that delivery times seem to be getting shorter now as I know some have been waiting a year for their Polo GTI's to arrive which is crazy, I had to wait 2 months in 2016!

I am thinking about going down the leasing route this time but the good offers tend to be on stock cars without extras so am not ruling out PCP again if I can get one with a spec I want. Anyone on here ordered recently and actually been given a decent idea of lead times?

Average UK waiting time was 10 months ish but judging by some users' confirmed build weeks, it's come closer to 7 - 8 months.

Ouch still a while then, I'm not in a mad rush but could be Christmas if I ordered one April - March!

I know these come from SA now though, whereas the last one was only Spain.

I am hoping my car is on the Glovis Spring and not still waiting for a ship. It was built week beginning 25th Feb. If not then a May delivery looks unlikely. 17 months wait is totally out of order now now.

Just checked and the Glovis Cardinal is now heading to Porto? It hasn't stopped in the UK, is there any chance the dealer got your ship wrong? Or does the car get off at Emden and put onto another ship?

The usual route is from Port Elizabeth to Emden via Vigo and some port in Belgium or Netherlands. Emden is the main European VW port, every Ro/Ro ship from factory gets here before cars are sent elsewhere in Europe. Your car got on a different ship once it arrived in Emden.

That makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. :)
