140 on an 8P?! That's crazy; like 6700rpm in 5th! Mind you - I've done 7k in 5th on an 8N 'box...

Need to ditch this 8N I've got in my car, virtually identical to an 8P - though very slightly shorter in each gear. Ratios are just too low for my motor, needs taller ratios so I can use the torque.

nah 140 on an 8P is pretty much at the CL 6500 redline
you might see 145-150 out of a (HEAVILY TUNED

) GT

Think you'll find it's closer to 6700rpm like I said! Tried my damnedest to get there with my original CL engine and 'box - even with GT injection I only managed 115ish (120+ if you count the time I found a big hill...).
8P or an 8N in a G40 is a different matter. Top speed is determined with how much you're willing to overrev your G-lader by. Sitting at 6000rpm+ for a long time isn't lader friendly, let alone trying top speed runs. Proper G40 'box means bending the speedo needle on the reset pin on 120mph clocks at 6500rpm ish - can't quite get that far with 8N 'box on as I decided 7k was plenty of revs.

It most certainly does!
Although I think my engine is now a bit 'over the hill', in it's prime, the best speeds it achieved was 119 mph in 4th(on the limiter, damn road rage!) and 131mph in 5th, after which I chickened out
Probably had the wind behind me to get those speeds

just have to agree to disagree mate, that sounds too low geared for the P

.... well, on standard tyres anyway!
(not by very much at all, granted, but by some)
tho maybe not for the N, if it's got a more frantic differential
(whatever

)

depends what your tyre proflie was. the difference between 145/80 and 155/70 can make a fair bit of difference at 6.5K in top

spreadsheet says:
142 at 6500 with 145/80/13 tyres (146 at 6700)
138.5 at 6500 with 155/70/13 tyres (142.7 at 6700)
lol at andy. Just come out and say it!
Tahrey is not your

I did it in practice with 185/60 R13 and it seemed to tally close enough to Mark's spreadsheet using 175/60 R13, but the tyre size will make a difference - I forget not having used the 145/80R13 for so long!
Now they'd be interesting doing 140ish on...

You see... the thing with the 1272cc CL engine is, its a low compression engine (relatively speaking)... so its much nippier around town through the gears, but once you are on the open road, its a slug:-(
Just my opinion anyways (so dont all shoot me at once:-P)
so would you say the 1043cc was as good on the open road as the 1272...not that I ever see me and my polo separating for a verrrrry long time ...just interested as I know she is a superior beast ....

Hard to say really, as i have no experience of a 1043cc Polio
I gues if the 1043cc was using a 4 speed gearbox then quite possibly yes
