Anybody else think this car is unlucky?

Bloody drunk drivers. My dad has been hit by two in just over 12 months. New Years Eve due to ice and then again on Tuesday night. The guy was pulling out of the pub carpark

and went straight into the side of my dad.

Absolute morons.

Glad your alright mate and the car is salvageable.

Jeez, sorry to hear about this, I guess in all cases like this it's always good to hear that you have come out of it relatively unscathed...

Almost sad looking at your damaged Polo...it looks so sad there with the upturned bumper!

So it is repairable then? Because looking at it I would've thought instant write off. I've seen 18 month old cars written off with less than that.

Defo repairable

- no chassis damage drives just fine if you fill up the water resevoir and don't go far

Needs

- Slam panel and bonnet release mechanism
- Rad & Fan unit
- Power steering hose (crushed by rad)
- indicators
- Headlights
- Front Bumper and skirts
- Bonnet
- might need a down pipe and cat cos that did take a bit of a thacking

Yeah easy cheap repair - will have first quote tommorrow 2nd one Sat morning - my money is on Â£1100 with labour and materials...

its a shame to see such a nice car in such a poor state! but the main thing is that your ok!

they wanted to right off my gf's car not from the damaged caused in putting the car in the ditch, but the fact the recovery people had to put a strop through the windows which pulled the tops of the doors in! her car is about a year old! would of been able to drive the car away if they hadn't of damaged it pulling lifting it out!

I think you've been really lucky, there (in a way) -- it looks like he's gone in at an angle and therefore missed both chassis legs. But did he hit the block instead? -- you'll need a good look at the engine mounts once everything's off it.

Bad luck, though. If it is economic, get it fixed and sell it on because...

From your other posts, it sounds like you definately know what you're doing mechanically, so why not replace it with this:

Thanks Deek - i will do that but I know it missed the block the exhaust is still well clear of it - it still drives straight and true no noises rattles or judder... Mind you that bungy cord holding the bonnet down wasn't the smartest move but I had to get it home and it did try to lift a bit

I'd love too but it carries the other halfs private plate so R reg or newer is my only choice

Yep - so they will be donated to the repair effort and the garage will sort out a couple of other little paint jobs that need doing in return.....

Good luck with the reoairs, I'm sure it'll all be OK

Mine didn't come off anything like as bad due to the lower impact speed, and until Monday I won't know what the damage is! Here's a question for you knowledgable chaps and chappettes - when the garage come and collect my car, can I ask them to provide me with a damage assessment as well as the insurers? I would like to know the extent of the damage caused

perhaps he didnt lose control so much, he "just" forgot he was supposed to drive on the left!

looks pretty nasty, the whole front end smashed, good luck with the salvage as the before/after pics will be ones to frame (and hide when potential buyers come knocking). nice tough motor at least if its just bruises.

(still shuddering from some of the stuff I saw on the repeat of the top gear "crash safety" programme ... never accepting a lift in a discovery or a pre-99 A4! modern festas and citroens all the way..)

its not just drunks that are a liability on such corners, people just dont know how to behave with some of them. Maybe just a lack of warning signs or something but there's a similar one (blind 90 degree bend, 60mph road but not suitable for >30 even if i'm caning it) on my route to the belfry that's had me chewing verge / gravel (thank god for that little driveway) a few times and come close to it a few more because of herberts. they somehow forgot both the "never travel faster than you can see to stop" and the somewhat more important "keep LEFT!" rules.
(worst of all, one of them was a truck.....)

hurts to imagine that plus someone on the p***
