Look forward to seeing it when it's done, give me a shout if you're popping up to VAG Tech again, I'll try and catch you this time.

Pics needed! Agreed. VOILA....

Here's one of the wee beastie last October at the Ring. (Parked waiting for the track to reopen after several crashes)
Immediately upon it's return to dear old Blighty, the transformation work began. I bet it wondered what it had done wrong...being subjected to the Nordschleife, then having its innards ripped apart. :(

For everyone who isn't Tom (you've seen it, so you don't count! ) the cosmetics are going to be staying pretty much "as is" - with the addition of a GTI front splitter and the VW rear spoiler, both in candy white. Angel eyes MIGHT be on the list, I'm not sure yet. Other than this, the car stays they way you see it. Except it'll have the turbo lump.

When it's back mobile, hope to get about and meet some of you guys! :)
Will keep you all posted.

Dude this is gonna be awesome. Your right about the styling, no angel eye's though, they've turned into the new lexus light. Bloody everywhere, and never look oem. Just splitter, spoiler and a set of 16" bbs i reckon.

And you've made me want my car white even more so now!

Yep I've seen it, although it looked a bit different to that pic - I think I MAY have seen the engine as well sitting in the workshop :D

I totally agree with Andy on the angel eyes though, the only lights you should upgrade to if any are GTi headlights 8)

Evenin' all.

Dug some images out for you all to see - it shows the state of play with the car at present.

A gaping cavity, just waiting to be filled...

...with this thing. :D

And finally, the view from the driver's seat. Note OEM walnut gear knob and mats. Can't I do ANYTHING original?

Going for 195/50/15 on 6x15 rims, even with a 30mm drop that shouldn't cause problems should it? (Please say if it will). My thinking is that on Bilsteins and polybushes, if I don't go for something a fraction more supple it's going to be like driving a boneshaker :?: :?:
It is only my opinion but I prefer the Eagle F1's over the Toyo R1's. I have Bilstein B8's and Eibach springs (OE bushes)on my 6n2 gti and although my car hasn't been near a track, I have found on the road the Toyo's need a fair amount of heat in them to operate well. Obviously this is fine on dry surfaces, but in the damp or wet I find them pretty bad and very slippy, whereas the F1's offer pretty much the same dry grip and much, much better wet grip.

I would have thought a 195/50 profile on a 6J rim would be a little too supple if the intention is to use the car a fair amount on track? I would have thought a wider rim (obviously lightweight) would give more benefits. Maybe have a set for the track if you could afford it. I run 195/45/15 on a 7J.

Hmm...good point on the tyres. Looks like I'll be buying another set of rims then

Tom - just seen you've got a taxi ride booked. O yes.....
Try and wangle it to go with Sabine if you can, she's a bit faster than the bloke, plus she'll swing the tail out as much as you like, if you ask her nicely!

I'm planning on being over there for that weekend (August Bank Holiday) so I may well be able to give you the passsenger ride you were promised?

I'll pm you my number at somepoint then mate and we'll meet up if you're over there (I'm staying at the Ringhaus hotel) flying in on the 25th, staying all day on the 26th then flying back the 27th.

I'd love to get Sabine as the driver, I've sat for ages and watched videos of her driving the ring in the Taxi

I agree on the tyre side of things as well, no matter how much I try (in the dry anyway) I find it very hard to get the F1's sliding, never had a screech from them either when cornering 8)

I did have Toyo's before but I think I'll stay with F1's
