Indeed at 2mph the car should have stopped with hardly any braking effort but it didnt. It just kept going with the pedal buzzing until i had rolled out onto the main road. Then i had to let go and reapply the brakes to make them work.

this sounds very odd, I mean the ABS sensors only monitor difference in wheel speeds, so the tyres must have to lock up in order for the ABS to kick in. it almost sounds like when your abs kicks in that is is reducing the pressure on all the other wheels too!

ABS does kick in quite often over undulations and so on when heavily braking. I didn't relaise you could have over-sensitive sensors, rather the controller would be over-sensitive to the decelerations and speeds being reported.

on a dry road if you brake hard does the ABS kick in? or is it only with undulations / slippery road surfaces?

Because i had so little confidence in my brakes i made a point of trying them with an emergency stop. I just slammed them on at 30mph on a dry road and they worked just as abs brakes should do.

Actually i was suprised how good they were when they need to be. I guess the brake assist must have cut in.

Considering I've had so many problems with my car (headlight breaking and refusing to fix it, squeaky brakes, rattling, interior noises, broken cup holders ect), I don't like my car anymore and want to take it back, and get another polo (hopefully a gti or sport) from a nearer branch (also the one a friend owns).

Only problem its under contract hire and i'm paying 125 something a month (had it since february this year) and paid almost a grand in deposit, If i complain enough would I get the deposit back? I'm pretty fed up with them tbh, the head technician even suggested I superglue my headlights and handed me a roll of cellotape when refusing to fix them under warranty!

Now this braking problem is the cherry on the cake. Any ideas anyone?

how are you paying so little a month? i pay 165pm on the same car with £1500 deposit.

Probably cos I've got 5 doors and metallic paint. It seemed as though the lower a car I get, the more I pay a month, but the lower the final payment.

Yeh its annoying because technically, if I got a GTI it would be cheaper per month.

You got any ideas on how to give it back to them? Obviously I can just hand it over (per the contract), but I'd like my deposit back as it was such a problematic car from day one..!

On my contract if i hand it back after 8 months i get the deposit back any way. i bet if you go for another VW they might just transfer the deposit.

If I go to another VW branch you think they would transfer the deposit?

Just had a quick read of my contract, didnt say anywhere that i could return the car within 8 months .

My brakes are still no good.

right, mine is going back in on the 28th.
i give them a nice long list of problems!
Glove box door has come off!
Drivers door is rattling!
Car has started sounding really rough!
MPG has gone way down, am getting 50miles to the tenner at the min.
Rattle from pipes in eng bay.
and the old ABS problem.

VW have said they have not had anyone else with the ABS problem.
I have to take it our on a road test with them.

oh, and they wouldnt give me anythin better than a 1.2E
and also! they charge a tenner a day for the hire cars now!!!!
