right guys thanks for all the input on this i did a bit research and apparently according to gsf there are 3 clutches that fit the gti but infact only 1 that is the correct clutch which is...........sachs so rang euro car parts and they had one on the shelf now that is what i call a result. checked back on my cars history and realised the gti had a new clutch fitted 17,000 miles ago and when i looked at the one fitted(valeo) it had high spots on the cover plate and it was pretty burnt not from me ridding the clutch, must have been the 87 year old woman that had it before me. so waiting for the box to be rebuilt should be back wednesday and then hoping the weather gets better up here i can get it back on its wheels. thanks again guys for your help.
