Depends who powder coats it. Probs around £50 ish inc the prep work

Removing the rocker cover on these engines is a bugger

You have to take the cambelt off and remove the camshaft sprockets before you can remove it.

Ha ha the head tech at my vw took a keen interest in my car but when I had starting trouble and he told me it was my immobiliser which I knew it wasn't as the car started when cold first time Everytime and wanted to charge me £90 just to look at it I started to shy away from my newly found vw friend it was soon discovered by mr Perkins to be my engine temp sensor had gone changed that myself £35 done not had a problem since. And when I bought it I saw Brian head tech and he said it defiantly wouldn't fix it. Ha... vw 0 alex Perkins 1

Again, sorry to bring up an old topic, but I'm having a serious nightmare with the re-paint of my cover. I've given it a brushed on coat of halfords heat resistant paint, and left it for 48 hours to cure as per the instructions. However, after driving it today and having a quick gander at it, the top layer seems to have all blistered up into a leather effect under the heat? Is this normal? Will it settle to flat again after cooling? I'm getting pretty sick of my poor attempt at DIY - considering getting it removed and professionally sprayed whilst I get my cambelt done?

Did you remove the red original paint???

Did you follow the instructions 100%

Most of the heat paints need heat when applying to cure the paint, if you want a 100% good diy job use the vht crinkle paint as it's ment to be used the way your trying now dude....

If it's blistered then that's a sign of it getting to hit to quickly and to thick. That's why I said DON'T brush it as this happens buddy.....

Cheers man. Yeah I did. I didn't nitromorse it (because I was afraid) but i took it back to the metal using a variety of sandpapers & drill brushes. I'm guessing it's probably just too thick then if it's wrinkled everywhere. Thanks for the heads up with the crinkle paint - although I'm technically after a smooth finish?

If i take it back off again, and use something like this:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... 65495#dtab

do you reckon I'd have better luck?

Presumably I'd have to mask up the entire bay if I was painting on the car?
