Yep, M14 XZN (NOT Torx)

You don't necessarily need a ring spanner for the top mount to get them off the car. You may find it easier to undo the 13mm bolts, take off the suspension, and then take off the top mount once it's off the car. I found an impact driver the best thing for this by far as you don't usually need to hold the centre still with a hex key. For the standard suspension you need compressors to take it off, for coilovers you don't need them. It's a right pain as compressors don't easily fir unless you have low profile ones.

I did mine off the car, took my brothers when I did his to Kwik Fit and got them to zap it off with the impact gun. Much easier, compressor is definatly on my list of things I need

I don't know whether this would work

Could I do the back ones myself, then is it possible to remove the front suspension as a whole and then pop down my local garage and get them to remove the spring or is the space too small?

That's exactly what I did, got the rears done, find out the fronts were stuck solid and drove it down. Got them to loosen them right off so the threads were cleared of crust, and then asked them to tighten them back down somewhat, not the best idea if you have to drive any distance, it's really not a good idea, car felt horrible to drive afterwards, but meant I could get them swapped back home.

Most likely the garage won't charge you for it, and if they do tell them you'll go elsewhere (preferably after they've done it ;) )

You won't be able to take the suspension strut off the front (as a whole) without compressors. Or it'll be nearly impossible at the very most.

You can do the rears no problems though.

If you can afford it, get a local garage to do the fronts for you. They have all the right stuff (clamp splitters, compressors, spline tool etc) and it may only take an hour and a half. It isn't just about compressors either - the clamp on the strut is often seized and you need a splitter to help.

For the top nut an impact driver from Ryobi is spot on, no need for a compressor / airline / etc. They are a lot more powerful nowadays than they used to be!

It really does make the car feel so odd to drive. But if you keep it really slow you should be okay, avoid any sharp braking or acceleration.

Those coilies should do, I have TA's on mine, but them barely used (300 miles) for £130 delivered. It doesn't look they come with any warranty though so could be worth it to pay a little extra and get some with a warranty, just incase. As the saying goes, buy cheap, buy twice.

Haven't been on here in ages as been up to ears in uni work - exam time again!! :(

Just wanted to ask a question that has been bugging me for some time.
When driving about in the Polo, especially moving off or at slow speeds, there is a lots of squeaking/screeching from the front and rear of the car.

It sounds like bushes creaking or the shocks and/or whole suspension (basically sounds expensive :()

Gonna give my local indy a ring tomorrow and get it looked at but wanted to see if anyone on here had experienced anything like this before?

Taking the car down to my local Indie tomorrow to get it looked at - worse case scenario if the bushes have gone, it'll be about £140 inc. parts and labour. Will also be going for Ibiza Cupra bushes to stop this happening again (they are the right ones??).

Also, how would I go about de-wipering the rear of the car. Seen the guides on here but what was wondering what size 'bung' to use on the hole and what do I need to ask for and where do I get one from. Also, do I need any glues etc??

25mm gromet, a couple spanners and some silicone just for that bit extra, probably dont need the silicone really.

And £140 is a decent price, I heard the cupra bushes are really cheap, most of it is labour. Let us know what the outcome is, Im pretty sure mine will need doing for MOT
