I sit firmly in the camp of treating the car hard for the first 100 miles (after warming the engine up obviously) as it seats the piton rings in better, gives a lower oil useage and the car ultimately gives better performance over a gently ran in one.

VW like everyone to gently ease in the car over 1200 miles which means that the car uses more oil and ultimately doesn't reach peak performance for around 30k miles, but ultimately the engine tends to last a little longer. All good for VW, but not for the first owner

Yes agreed but takes some common sense as to how hard you are going to run the car since the clutch plates are still not bed in properly too!

Yes agreed but takes some common sense as to how hard you are going to run the car since the clutch plates are still not bed in properly too!

Yes, a degree of common sense was applied, no hard starts and full accelleration applied in only 2nd and 3rd gears to save on gearbox pressure on the clutches in the higher gears.

Excellent work! For my previous new cars, I changed out the oil pretty quickly and replaced it with mineral 5w30 oils at 500km, 1000km, 3000km until 5000km. However, for TSI engines, I am not sure if this is advisable as the cheap mineral oil might be cooked?

yeah, I've been reading on the oil consumption issues and decided to go "off-piste" and try some Mobil 1 0w40 synthetic once I've reached 200 miles and had the car mapped.

Got an email from the dealer and my car went into production yesterday

Good for you and bad news for me. Mine finally arrived at dealership but it turned out to be a 3dr instead of a 5dr which I wanted.

They now have a spare white 3dr PGTI with full options minus the sunroof and heated seats up for grab and beat the waiting list.

I will be getting a Dec production and delivery in Jan 2012. :~(

Just ordered this week and managed to squeeze out a dec production date. previous order was done in April and delivery in Oct.

My Polo is now at Santander waiting to go on a boat! Dealer said it will be 2-3 weeks until I get it.

Its pretty quick now. I guess the production line is running full shifts now and the parts supply problem has been solved.

The production time for one car is 59 hours from start to finish!

In he words of my dealer 'The mother ship has landed in the UK'

and my car will be ready to pick up next week!
