hehe mine neither!

I was hoping the garage had re-set the sender when they put the new tank in, but like a prune i didn't mention it.... bottled out of running it dry to check (fuel pump started making *nasty* noises last time)... and of course... when filled... needle was trying to point to "11" instead of 9 again :D
when i'm doing the seats next week, might get the nerve up to give it a go - disconnect the power to the fuel pumps, run the engine til it cuts then on the starter til it stops catching then a minute more, take the access cap off (under the rear seats), disconnect the tubes, undo the screws, pull the whole caboodle out and give it a tweak. will require a lot of trial and erorr!

but, 340 miles from a tank trolling round the capital, that's probably worth a medal.

i once got 430 from a tank but got stranded on the m1...

you'll find in mk3s that the needle doesnt go down steadily... cos if you've done a long journey then start car again it seems low like the gauge seems to stick when taking it steady over long distances...

it's not that it just rises *really slowly* ?? :)

(yeah, i had the try-running-it-on-the-starter, use the rest of the juice waiting for the injector to re-prime whilst fruitlessly turning it over, then flag someone down for a jump-start adventure too :( )

i often find that too.

The feul needle sometimes drops half a gallon from warm to cold the next day if its been a long journey

The reason the needle takes a while to rise is because it acts as a 'dampner.' If the needle was sensitive to the level of fuel, it would be jumping up and down all over the place when you go round corners and apply the brakes. So, the computer 'dampens' the signal it receives from from level in the tank, so it gives a more steady value. This, however, makes the needle react slow to the level of fuel in the tank.

and there i thought it just had a big weight attached to it.... that explanation makes far more sense than mine :D (because it'd still wave around otherwise)

I've only had the GT for 2 weeks but I've got 200 miles and the needle is on half way. I know it'll probably only have around 50 miles left in it though as soon as the needle gets to half way it starts moving a lot quicker.

I'll let you know. It's what I'm expecting as the car needs a full service. Plus I need to sort a few other things out (tyres/tracking)

I think the fumes are getting to you!

Dont you mean 360 miles not 360 mpg?
I'd be lucky to get 30mpg in my 'other' car

I bet mr bstard's other car would not even get that?

360 mpt (miles per tank) I could go with but mpg (miles per gallon) even a prius isn't that good!!!!!!!!!

You can edit your own post to correct it but you can't edit the evidence inside the quotes

Hope the flu goes soon and apology accepted
