Thanks man you're a legend. Really appreciate all the info :D #

I will keep an eye out for a decent 02J box then. I have to go back to work for 5 weeks soon so that will be a good time to read up on things. Thanks for that link i'll have a look at that now :)

Just to update a little bit:

Engine has been stripped of what I want so mainly the sump:

Box is off and it is huge so that will be up for sale: An 02M box if anyone is interested.

Tried his mount on again on the drives side and it is not too bad but still going to start again and do it properly:

Subframe is also off awaiting fitment of new one. All this wiring will be scrapped as well. What a lovely mess:

More brakes thanks to TriggerFish on here. Now I can make a nice set or have them all round

And this just to get in the mood:

Engine should be here soon but then no progress for 5 weeks as i am off back to work :(

Then a big push to try and get the engine mounted properly next time home :D

2015 Update:

Its been a long time since I have updated this but just to let you all know that I have not given up. A lot has changed since the last post:

- New Shell that is not completely ruined
- BAM 225hp TT engine with 66,000 miles
- All custom engine mounts without notching the chassis
- 02J TDI box
- Custom Hydro Clutch pipe, all working
- Ibiza Cupra stubby cylinder powering the Hi Spec 4 pot brakes.
- Spax Coilovers from my red Gti on the 20v now.
- Custom Coolant pipes all made
- Front mount intercooler fitted (One boost pipe to make)
- Starts and runs like normal with custom Wiring loom
- Boost gauge run and working
- Heat shielded engine bay
- Badger 5 style 80mm intake pipe
- Battery relocation to the boot

To Do:

- Drive shafts
- 3 Inch Exhaust
- Charge pipe side boost pipe
- MOT
- Drive

Not far off now. Can't wait to drive it. Been a long time building but I hope it will be worth it.

To anyone thinking of doing this I would not ever recommend doing this project. It has been a huge ball ache and I must have spent 3 times what I thought I would have. Lets just hope its good fun.

I'll let the pictures do the talking:

That is going to be an absolute monster 8)

What map will you run?

I too have embarked on a new project...a (second) mk2 golf GTI. Thought about 1.8T'ing it but decided it would be nicer to be original with NA power that's slightly more due efficient lol given my lead foot.

Hi Alex,

Good to see you still on here :)

I will be running it standard for now at 225 plus a bit with the exhaust and intake etc. I will then get a proper LSD for it and see how it handles. If its ok I may go to stage 1 which is around 270, but will have to upgrade the rods etc. I am a bit scared of making it un drivable so we shall see. Can't wait to try it. I am betting it wheel spins on a rolling pull in 3rd gear in the wet as it is now.

Mk2 sounds cool. I still have Chris's Mk1 which is under blankets at the moment. I may have to move it on mind as it just doesn't get used. Does father still have the red polo?

Ha brilliant.

Yup still here. Running it these days along with Josh :)

Indeed he has, he's got my old one too now so probably the two lowest mileage examples left in the Uk lol

Yes seen that. Doing a great job as well might I add. A shame the facebook page has taken over with a lot of rubbish being posted on there. Not the same as a proper forum. Us old timers still having a glance every now and again.

Awesome, yes keep them that way. Mine is still going. Ended up putting in another engine after the bent conrod. It was just never the same and burnt a lot of oil so I bit the bullet and stuck a whole lump in that had done about 90,000. I still use it when the weather is too bad to get the others out
