Drove the Blue GT this afternoon with the lowered an stiffened suspension. Loved it, decent fun to drive and felt really solid. Be a dealer on Friday to sort a deal out

Would the GTI actually be that much faster than a BGT as its a heavier car (engine wise - 1.4 BGT vs 1.8 GTI), I know it's got 40BHP more but still

In real world performance terms, not a great deal in it, 7.5 secs 0-62 as opposed to 6.7 in the new GTI, and 130 mph Max as opposed to 146 I think in the new GTI.

So in day to day driving, no - the margin is not that big, in track conditions - yes, then you would see more of a performance gap between the BGT and the GTI.

It isn't just about the 0-60 time but the feel of the car. The new GTI is getting reviews stating that is is fun to drive something lacking with the GT according to various motoring press.
For me I don't like my food half baked, so certainly not my car.

I like the needle sweep (6.44) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAZ2Wmgl1Zg
Hope UK spec cars have that.

Yes - good review. I know the Golf GTI does the needle sweep on start-up, it would almost certainly be configurable with VCDS though if it is not set as standard.

Yes it is a good review. Encouraging that he says it feels like a racing car when you want it to, something he hasn't felt in a small car before. The model he drove didn't have the parabolica GTI wheels, prefer those personally.
Yes Andy4791, I've gone for flash red again, looks good as a GTI.
Come on VW put your back into it! , and start building my car! :D

Yes - he was very impressed, not so much with fuel consumption which surprised me a little, as I thought it was very good, even the 1.8 is slightly better than the current 1.4 (at least in DSG).

It is certainly a car of all moods and occasions!

Makes me want to get one now! I think I was wrong with the top speed of the BlueGT (not that it matters), I believe it is 138mph.
