prash - fair enough :? although it's a mixed opinion on the site as to what / who you can beat! i wouldn't take on a vts - just a vtr.

vts is a revvy engine for sure - 107lbft of torque at a high rpm doesn't equate to a nice driving style on the motorway. I think the 1.4 16v has 95lbft at 4400rpm - about 80mph :)

end of the day - daffy - you got a good buy. nice cheap motoring and a fairly refined car - much more so than some of these french motors. you could do a lot worse!

get it lowered and with some nice grippy tyres you'll find you have an enjoyable car again!

Yes, its been done before, but flying the plane is something that you often feel requires a great deal of concentration. I don't think it goes well with alcohol, you can get away with many mistakes in a car.

Being in greece you should know all about it, chill. That said, it doesn't get much more agressive than greek drivers. I have many greek friends here and they are all the same, nice cars but huge scuffs and dents everywhere. I think matina thinks she's in Athens.

yeah i know. greece is hell to drive in. if you can drive there i reckon you can drive almost anywhere. i like to think that i differ from most greek drivers due to my aussie upbringing :-)

although the good thing about greece is that there is very very VERY low risk of being pulled over by the cops.


going for some yokohamas. never used them before but i've heard that they are top notch tyres.

You need good ones in greece. the roads are shiny and made of cheese. I often wonder if we're about to die on some corners. You often see holes in barriers where someone plunged off a cliff, if it was us, do you think anyone would notice, I mean, you don't know how long they have been there?

I was driving some greek guests to a wedding on Crete last year, I think they must have thought I was a professional chauffure. My greek isn't brilliant, but I understand most of it and can tell them not to push their luck!

I still can't get used to actually arguing with other motorists through open windows! And I can never get used to letting others onto a roundabout I'm already on, what's all that about?

hehehheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....

roundabouts. you see, greeks aren't exactly the most curtious of drivers. so if the right of way was given to the guy on the roundabout, nobody would ever get in. so they gave the right of way to the guy entering, and that way you HAVE to let him in. ingenious huh?

on the other hand, the good thing about the roads being so slippery is that tyres last for donkey's years.

So you get your tyres to last 40 years, wow. I think the sun eats them in greece.

yes the sun a big problem. eventually you end up having tyres that have a tread 5cms deep, but the tyres are all dried out.

Armour All claims to have UV stopper to prevent damage by the sun, and it does seem to work.

Car plan do some stuff that is specifically for blocking sun, nut I don't like it because everything sticks to it.

Erm. Yes it does! On the GTi! It has variable valve timing on the inlet manifold... I read it in the handbook :lol:
You mean it has VVT on the inlet CAM...manifolds don't have timing, all that happens in the head.

This post is funny!

Believe there was a Q about lowering in there somewhere.

If it helps I lowered my mk5 16v by using second hand suspension from a Polo GTI bought on E-bay. £100 (f****r choped the front springs by 2" so I used the original springs, if ur out there i want ur blood f****r!)

Lowers about 15mm and improves the handling, the car dosent roll as much, more flat round corners and less bouncy at high speeds.

Thinking of some 30mm eibach springs hehe got a steep driveway so cant go to low!
