They are very different. It's not an easy fit, you'll need to change a lot, for example the BCM. It's a bit like retrofitting bi-xenon to a Polo 6R.
You'll need an adapter from 10 to 14 pins, halogen has only 10 pins, Xenon and LED headlights have 14 pins.
Then you'll need another BCM, depending on your current setup it could be a lot of work (BCM Max retrofit)
You'll need to disable your DRL, in whatever way you have it on your halogen setup, but probably included in the previous step.
Then you'll need to run some additional wires from the headlight to the BCM
And ideally, depending on the legislation in place in your country, you'll need to add AFS and headlight washers.

Overall, it's not an easy retrofit in any way.

I think for basic functionality they will work with just the 10-14 pin adaptors, no?
eg low beam, high beam, and indicators

DRL is currently hardwired to headlight switch but as a quick fix, i think it rewired internally of the headlight using a relay to say if sidelight is not on, then divert low beam power to drl, else power low beam.

Yes there are some quick and dirty solutions to make it work, but I'm not sure it's the right way to go....

To add seperate DRL to a 6R with BCM 6R0 937 087P which has normal halogen headlamps, can this be done without upgrading to BCM Max?

eg if it were to have the DRL in the bumper where the fogs light are, from factory where would the wiring come from?

At the moment the low beam is on full time when headlight switch is on 0 acting like a DRL
The BCM does not seem to be involved for low beam, it all comes from the headlight switch so its hard wired.

To add a 6C Xenon or LED headlamp to a Polo 6R using 10 to 14 pin adaptors from 2011 onwards where DRL is always on with low beam through headlight switch



So using a standard changeover relay within a led or xenon headlamp itself with 14 pin connector:

30 - Low Beam from light connector
87a - DRL +ve
87 - Low beam to bulb
86 - Side light from light connector
85 - Ground

You would need to also uncheck the option to turn on parking lights using terminal 15 in VCDS on your BCM

This way, you would save a lot of work and effort :

1) no need to add or change any wiring on the car
2) no need to change your existing BCM
3) no need to change your headlight switch

Now, just need to test this out..

No don't do that... Play it safe. Replace the bcm.

Helo I'm new here. I would like to know further regarding the headlights change for my polo gti 1.4 tsi model 6r. I would like to change to the headlights of a new face-lift polo gti 6c model. How do I go about that, is there plug play without error code or just a simple change of the adapters or bcm change?

No this is not s straight swap. Depending on how much functionality you like to keep its either a pair of adapters or more swapping of bcm/afs module

I would like to have as what 6c model, exactly the same function as 6c..how do I go about that, simply I want that 6c look as well as its functionality.

i’m struggling to understand this. I have bought H7 lamps (originally H4). Am i correct in thinking you have to remove the grey wire from the J331 relay and put a new one in its place going to the ‘7’ on the back of the headlight switch?
