i agree with ciclo.

the wiring to a single socket is made for 15A only. (plus and GND).
if you make a 30A fuse in it (extreme example), you could pull 29,999A in theory from one socket (one gnd wire, one plus wire).

this is not a desirable situation.

Two 5V USB power outlets at the rear are very useful for passengers to recharge their electronic devices. I suppose you will be more proud of this modification by the fact that you have customized the lid.

However you always have to keep in mind that the new current converter (12v to 5V) you installed will always be working when you turn the ignition key to the ACC position.

In my humble opinion the ignition switch ACC position always would have be electronically controlled to prevent a full battery drain. The enough to start the engine one more time...

A voltmeter on center console is useful to these matters...

Yes. It is definitely for rear passenger and because of the same reason like you said above, i've actually put switches to both usb chargers (front and the new rear usb ports). At least i wont waste unnecessary load while not using it.

Hey Benzinkopf,

I love your car. I wish to do this mod. Do you have a link of where you you purchased this usb adapter from?

Also Fernando,

Could you send the wiring diagram for it? Thanks!

Thanks habib_123. I purchased the converter from aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/DC-DC-1 ... 9dfc3fc045

I decided for up to 3Amp unit so the charging rate is faster, most USB adapter module is normal 1A. So with this module, i have to custom-made the adapter/cover (3Dprint).

Thanks for the reply. Is there any chance you could recreate another adapter for the usb ports?

Also where did you place your front usb port? (just getting ideas)

It is possible since it is just 3D printed ABS plastic which takes around 1hr. The only problem with 3D filament print like i have is the linings that needs additional manhours for finish and smooth products. We can communicate further on that. Another option is to buy the converter module and the original standard usb port vw with cover (normally connected to the radio unit) and modify it to use with the converter.

For front usb, i built in the lightning charger/phone holder on the dash like this

I must say i am kind of guy who hates charging cables around myself. [emoji23]

I hate cables as well. I think I got on idea to replicate it.

Thanks!

Hi habib_123

I think the wiring and diagram made by benzinkopf for this kind of converter is good with the switches solution.

i must say, i'm not a big fan of the screw terminals in cars. i would recommend to use a crimp terminal or a soldering connection.

apart from that, very good idea1

Yes. Agreed. I still need to replace the screw terminal and im now searching for the best crimp terminal. With the setup that i have, crimp terminals/connectors are compulsory to allow removal of the switches, converter unit in case it needs replacement
