If Awesome GTI can do this, it'd be mighty interesting, but I don't know how much I'd use it... but if the price is right, I'd be interested in getting this done, I can't see it affecting my insurance in any way (famous last words)... and would be a nice little extra for my parents when they nick off with my car, as they have cruise on the Bora
If you can get us a prospective price Andy, and I can afford it, then yeah, why not

rite people i've been to awrsome gti today and the news is
YES!
we can do this but it is abit more expensive than expected. if you want to get this done on your own its £195 + VAT and the best deal he could give me was if 5 of us get it done its £175+VAT
ill probably get it done, also he has taken a note of my ECU number and is finding me a chip! yea baby!
if you interested please make a list below! this is only a defo ok for the gti but i don't see why, and he didn't see any reason why it wouldn't work on all 6N2's that are drive by wire! (that means computer controlled! BTW)

Gah, I can't afford £175 at the mo. If I get a pay rise in April then perhaps, but its looking unlikely... sorry

How does this fit on? is it a new stalk, or a replacement?
If its the same as on a Bora, does anyone have pics of what its gonna look like?
I want it to look like its meant to be there...
cheers,

Sorry if posted already, but how do I confirm if my car is 'drive-by-wire'?
Its a 1.4 SE 16v Year 2000
I think, but am not sure, that the engine code starts with AUA

Hmmm... I'm in two minds about this, on one hand it would be nice to have the cruise for the long motorway drives but then it will take the fun away of driving but then you can always not use it...but then why bother having it if you don't use it?
Can't say I used it much on my dad's Accord when I drive it so I can't see me using it much on my Polo! Argghhh the decisions, decisions, decisions!

I'm up for it, so we need three more. Mine is AUA too. All 6n2 are drive by wire, and all the 16V engines are Mag Marelli ECU so if the GTi works, then there should be no problem. The only worry I had was wether there was a clutch switch or not. But apparently its not a problem. They fit a Golf Mk3 stick to replace your indicator stalk, so it looks like a factory fit.

Sounds great James, let me know what you find out. From the Golf mods i've seen, it's just been the stalk, so if their is a factory part that looks 'right' and fits pefect as a replacment, this is looking go for our model of Polo
It's just the wiring that confuses me slightly, the stalk replacement would not be so hard at all

don't forget that many things these days all communicate over can busses which means that you can add all sorts to it. And VW are very lazy and hate to redesign stuff that they do not need to, so you find that it fits the housings they already have.
You will note that the reuse of parts on different models is very popular, they even have parts across car brands!

lol that's very true, makes it easier for us to mod things with an OEM finish
