I fitted a NZ manifold to my GT the other day, so I'll have to do a power run or two to see if it makes any difference. just driving it so far I havnt really noticed any.

right I've been out for a play and here are the lb/ft torque at different rpms

RPM .........GT........NZ
2000.........35.........55
2500..........66........67
3000..........71........72
3500..........71........74
4000..........73........77

with the GT manifold my peak torque was 74 lb/ft @ 4200 rpm and peak power was 80 bph @ 5900 rpm

with the NZ manifold my peak torque was 78 lb/ft @ 3900 rpm and peak power was 74 bhp @ 6000 rpm

of course thats on my car but on others it will be different (depending on mods), and I'm losing some power somewhere, as the car is with a chip, 4 branch manifold and sports system, golf AFM and drilled airbox.

Are you running a GT or longer ratio box?

yeah I went to huddersfield this morning and its a much more leisurely car to drive, like leaving it in 5th at 30 mph.

Im using a standard GT box and with my wheel and tryes its near enough 7mph per 1000 rpm

I think thats where the 1.4 wins over the 1.3 Looking at the rr day printout its already at 65lbft of torque at 2000rpm :) But If I had a GT runabout still Id seriously contemplate putting an NZ manifold on!

Do you have the GT inlet on the 1.4? Sorry, I can't remember what you've said previously

yeah its all GT apart from the head and block. Oh and gearbox, thats an 8P. So I cant recommend putting an NZ inlet manifold on the 1.4, the displacement makes up for the loss of low down torque caused by the large port sizes on the GT manifold. 8)

Also makes up for the longer 8p gearing I would think 8)

I wish I'd got my old blue GT sorted and rr'd to see what the head/cam etc gave at what revs. I fear it was never set up that well though.

5th gear acceleration is not as good as Id like, but Ive always got 4th for that. Although to be fair when im in 5th gear Im almost always outside the powerband, dont reach 4K till about 85mph, and its best from 4 to 5.5K

So let me get this straight - a G40 manifold works better on a GT, and a GT manifold works better on a G40??

So i can make 40 quid just by swapping?!!

5th gear cruising is good in mine too dom, drive along at 30mph in 5th...press the accelerator a little and it still pulls quite good.

Having just had the engine put in i have been driving a bit hard at times and i have still managed 367miles between fill ups.

I wouldn't say a G40/NZ works better on a GT as the gains are at revs the GT rarely visits such is it's gearing.
