the charcoal canister is basically a vent for the fuel tank. any fuel vapour from the tank is supposed to be collected here and then when the engines running it slowly gets used up. not sure how it effects performance or economy though...

Its a lovely engine steve but I think youve let the rocker cover get rusty.

hia,

I just removed my vacum switch and hot air intake, but the idle is abit s**t and it some times stalls. It only started doing this since I removed the switch, I am thinking of refitting the switch and piping, but not the hotpipe and its vacum supply?

Any ideas? how are your running with out the vac switch?

You did block the holes up after removing the switch didn't you?
And blocked any vacuum pipes that are dangling about?

yup,

the holes on the throttle body air in take are taped up, the t-piece now goes into on, ie the end are connected

any ideas?

hmm..the stalling sounded like a vacuum leak to me..anyone else got an idea....dom you are a wealth of knowledge..what do you think?

are you sure you put it all back together right, it does sound like an air leak.

I got rid of the t-piece altogether and just ran one of the lengths of pipe between the two vacuum outlets. The existing pipe was long enough to do that.

Sorry if that's a bit obscure - i'll get a pic if it helps...

The other thing that might be worth doing (tho i doubt it will cure the problem) is to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery. I think a minute or two does the job - but I usually leave it overnight to be sure!!

Last time I did this, my car turned into an absolute rocket!!!

yeah sounds like an air leak to me too. the engine is very susceptible to air getting into the idduction system after the airflow meter, as it will cause the engine to run too lean at idle, causeing problems

hia,

its sorted now, just needed more fuel. There was a small vac leak around the vac switch but that did'nt seem to make much difference, half a turn on the TB adjustment sorted it out!

Nice
