Look out with that beading mate, it fades like a b*tch! I've had to go back to red tape for now, until I come up with a better solution (I tried wrapping the tape around the beading, but it didn't work.) Where did you get it from?
Yeh I'd get the raceland wrapped, I've heard from a quite a few people now that they can sound quite tinny without.
Nice progress

Re: My GTI progress thread (Update 28th August - new bits - P21)
Your about 6 months too late, we know
Might as well give an update with the thread bumped. Weather is s**t and the car is probably in the worst condition exterior wise since I've owned it. New tyres are coming and I'll probably wait til March to get my exhaust, then bodywork sorted in the summer.
Should I get a standard front bumper or smooth the whole car? Now I'm 50:50

Totally depends what look you want to go for. I like the smoothed look. But your car is quite OEM looking. Although Alun's car is very OEM looking and pulls off the smoothed look fantastically!Mouse_GTI wrote: Should I get a standard front bumper or smooth the whole car? Now I'm 50:50

I'll worry about what I'll do nearer the time, gonna wait til around spring to get the bodywork sorted.
I'm now thinking of selling the car. Not right just now though, probably near the end of the year. I still love the car but I'm gonna be 23 in March and in July I'll have had the car 3 years and feel like a change. End of the year would be a good time to pick up something like a 6 month old Fiat 500 Abarth SS

Will be keeping the wheels as I sold my original RX II's ages ago. They are all kerbed anyway, though they will be fully refurbed before I ever sell it
I'm worried what I'll get, I've been seeing 51 plate cars going for £1500

Re: My GTI progress thread (Update 28th August - new bits - P21)
Just checked on ebay, prices are still ok for GTI's, they do seem to hold their value really well. Assumming my bodywork/wheels were sorted and with half of the mods removed I'd probably start mine at 3.5k at this exact moment in time.
Got my Toyo Proxes 4 fitted at the weekend. Will need to go on a big long drive sometime to see if they are much better

Re: My GTI progress thread (Update 17th Sep)
Well I can't believe it's been a year since I last updated. Been quite busy obviously. Spent the end of last summer getting drunk before getting a full time job in December with good money. Since then I've spent less time doing stuff with the car. The fact in March I test drove a 500 Abarth SS and fell in love has sort of sealed the Polo's fate...it will be going in March 2010. The plan is to buy an Abarth SS in January and have it ready made for the "10" plates in March.
I really don't wish to sell it as I still love driving it, even though I'm used to the power and it's a little slower with the new gearbox, but what can you do when you live 500 miles away from the place you got the replacement! The car sort of fell into neglect - I ran over a boulder and fecked my sill for like the third time. And at the start of the year I got impatient and overtook a taxi that was waiting for a bus that was just sitting there, and I clipped him causing damage to my passenger side. I finally got the car into the bodyshop a couple of weeks ago, which cost me £1150! I was wanting a full respray due to all the paint niggles but it would of just been too much. People think I'm crazy getting the stuff done, but I want the car to look good and hope the future owner would be the same. The list of stuff I got done was:
- Repaint cracks under lights
- Repaint roof rack rails due to corrosion
- Repair damaged passenger sill
- Repaint both sills (due to garage damaging one before and using a crap bodyshop to touch it up)
- Repaint both bump strips due to damage
- Fix rust patch in passenger inner door where paint had came away
- Fix bubble in driver side wing which had been there since I had the car (turned out there was a hole under it
)
- Respray front bumper, as original paint job was done on the cheap and was coming off badly
- Refit new front splitter (as I had scuffed my old one!)
Here was what it looked like before:

And here is how it looked after:
