So making it lower like 5,000 will make it cheaper than 10,000.
Obviously, less chance of the car being crashed.

BUT
If it turns out i get investigated and i go over that, then I'm in the s**t, surely?

Depends where you live & what you use the car for. I use the car most days for travel to work & the odd longer trip & still don't do more than 6k a year, the other half has a 16 mile round trip to work & she's only managed 5500 miles in a year & that is on a limit of 6k.

Just be realistic on your mileage, if you limit it too low they'll smell a rat! Good start point would be 6-7.5k a year, if by end of your 1st year you only manage to cover 5, then year 2 reduce it. Worth it in the long run!
