Ensure you use genuine VW gearbox oil though as its superior to pretty much all other 75W90 gear oils you can buy as it has special additives in it.
Oops too late  I bought some fuchs oil, meets the specification so should be fine?

LAst night i was onit till 9pm doing the following:

Draining gearbox oil. Had to use a make shift wheel bolt and 17mm spanner as i didnt' have a 17mm hex or allen key. Does anyone know where the fill point is on the GB :?:

Full coolant flush

Changed the pollen filter ( mine was actually black with moths in it  tasty....)

Adjusted the Spax to around half was up the thread. Should be a good basepoint.

Torqed up the bbs bolts- rounding one off in the process

made a tea

patted the dog

and that was me done:) All im waiting for is the bloody tyres which have taken almost 10 days to arrive
How much was the pollen filter broski? Mine is in need of a change.

Also its good that your changing all the important bits first rather than spending a wedge on wheels then moaning when it breaks down (like i have  )

Oki doke Alex if it blows up i'm to blame :P

To be honest Chris i got the car so darn cheap at £1400 i've budgeted about £1000 for service parts and some fun things too :P The pollen filter was easy as pie, no bolts involved, just pull back the rubber strip near the passenger side and then pull out the plastic cowling which exposes the filter. Remove the air deflector, and easy the filter our of the clips. Takes about 5 mins 8)

Mk4 is about £12 from TPS or GSF

Almost the same. You need to carefully cut the slot a little deeper like the original, but that takes two seconds
