By the look of it, 29.9mpg out of a 1.0 must be some kind of a record, yes? My mum's shogun 2.5 TD is more economical than my mk2 1043 at the moment
As far as m/tank goes, it's on around 200 atm.

OOOOO you bugger you just got me pipped. Last fuel log entry (short version):

fill date . . . . . miles . . . litres . . mpg
09/10/04 . . . . 77339
18/10/04 . . . . 77573 . . 35.31 . . 30.1 . . . . (= 234 miles, full to approaching reserve)

Yiiiiiikes. There's a fair bit of traffic, heavy right foot, and toodling around far too many corners on bloody housing estates in 2nd/3rd in with that though. Not that the earlier ones were any better. Now that I have my route to college down pat however, and going to/from the club will become an ever slower affair as winter draws in, it should improve. I hope!!!

Never mind... I have it completely pussy whipped with an earlier one...
07/08/04 . . . . 75774
11/08/04 . . . . 75903 . . 9.08 . . 64.5 (!) . . . . = 129miles (top-off)
12/08/04 . . . . 75943 . . 8.39 . . 21.6 (!!!!) . . . = 40 miles (top-off)
--- cant even remember what caused that, they were a while after the revs vs throttle opening debate. I'm hoping the pair of them were because of dodgy petrol pumps... not 100% on why i did such little fills neither! :D

My first GT, totally standard, would give 330>340 mpt in mixed driving (stuck in traffic and caned down the m-way), my last often worked out at about 24mpg. It gave 40 driving it home when I bought and progressively got worse :D Personally I'm not convinced the Schrick was timed correctly but then again it was never driven gently (aside from warming up!). The temptation to harrass Cooper Ss and the like was too much, thus causing the economy to be too little  The 1043 mk3 I had after that gave 40mpg in everyday boring use which at the time was mostly journies under 5 miles. Coming back from the Ed38 show I got 53mpg by chilling out a bit; no point in caning it as it wouldn't have gone quickly anyway. Also I'd fitted a 1.4 spi injector unit thingummyjig which made a noticeable difference to the torque so I was changing up earlier than with the std one. A highly recommended mod to all to 1043ers out there. Never got round to chipping and decatting it though which should have helped some more.

nuttinnew you got any pics of the 1.4 tb on your car or any pics of you fitting it..just so i can see what kinda job it is.

No pics but easy job.

Remove air filter and housing (three nuts on to injector and a couple of vacuum/breather hoses).

You'll then see four bolts that go through the injector, undo those and you'll see what wiring you have to unplug (the plugs are all shaped and can only go back on where they're supposed to).

Then it's just the fuel feed and return at the front of the injector (wrap rag round these when you undo them as fuel will spray out because of the residual pressure).

I think I had to swap the throttle cable holders over on the injectors; can't remember but if so it's only one nut on each so no hassle.

If you're near the Dartford Crossing on the M25 gimme a shout!

Hi all,
Well chuffed to find your forum. Seems like a good crowd. Hello!

Well I was shocked at this thread so I had to register to give my opinion.

I got a GT 5 years ago and had it somewhat modified at Dubsport (don't go there nowadays - robbing t**t Mark runs it recently)

Flowed head
Piper cam
Single box blue flame exhaust
Decent filter
drilled box
15" wheels (and customary rolled arches)

Anyhow, I always got 340 miles on optimax driving everyday; I don't like to waste time sat in cars (my friends all say I drive too fast!), 280 if canning it (I mean I even had 280mm discs hot, broke 3 sets of dampers in 5 years and...) and best ever was 390 when the petrol crisis was on. They were peaceful times........

But I have recently bought a G40 cheap and am doing a 1341 conversion and a full rebuild with pitstop's help. I used the GT flowed head (GT head and G40 head are the same apart from sodium filled valves on the 40) on the new lump and the std 40 head is now in the GT for my everyday drive.

My fuel economy has gone from 340 miles to 290 or so per tank.

Get a flowed head and decent cam!!!!!

I always found Optimax gave me 10-15 more MPH top speed. 125 was normal in the modded GT but on a normal unleaded day the exhaust was quieter but 110-115 was max speed.
I always feel you gain more from the more potent fuel cos you gotta put your foot down less.

Duck

LO all :)

Hi there :D

Only had my 1043 boulevard a few weeks, but I seem to be getting about 45mpg rolling around city roads. Pretty good I thought. Havn't really had the chance to take it on mway for a good blast yet, but I reckon from town driving I must be able to get 50mpg+ 8)
