Have you checked the wishbone bushes? are are the top mounts in good order?

top mounts are brand new, haven't checked the wishbone bushes, really need the tracking done so I was thinking of just puting camber bolts in to adjust it

Camber can be quite heavily adjusted by the two lower strut bolts, and the three lower balljoint bolts.

I thought of the two lower strut bolts one should be a camber bolt but it doesn't seem like it, how would I adjust it using just the standard bolts?

The hub has adjustment built into it - you loosen both lower strut bolts holding the coilover strut to the hub, and pull out or push the strut in from the hub which will ultimately adjust the camber of the hub.

If I loosen the strut bolts to adjust the angle then won't the strut be loose...?

Well yes, of course, but you adjust the camber then tighten them up.

So if I have negative camber then should I be pushing the strut further into the arch?

Technically yes, but I think your best bet is to take it to a proper garage and get them to adjust the camber for you using a laser rig
It is very difficult to get camber right manually.

Another thing is that I've had terrible mpg the past month or so, when I got the car I had almost 100 miles out of a tenner once, where as the other day I put in 35, I've done 166 miles and the fuel light is back on, which is awful for a 1.0 I have egr fault codes to fix, could the egr affect the fuel consumption?

Some better pictures to follow, getting the tracking done on Sunday then the back will be going a bit lower as it's a bit nose heavy.
Down from 4 engine management codes to 1 which means I need to get the EGR out and give it a good clean. Also found the idling issue, one of the hoses for the throttle boddy had two half inch tears in it, replacement should be at the local vw dealership on thursday, electrical tape seems to be a good substitute until then.
