Nicce. Does the 'gutter' trim just pull off? God knows whats growing in mine!? Perhaps some carrots or cabbages I hope

my grills come off quite often as i find it easier to give em a good clean and blacken, so i clean under them when ever there off so, thats never to bad. i really want the handles off when we machine polish it. but not sure how difficult is it to take them off. door cards off im guessin then what? ive never actaully looked at the handles when ever ive had the door cards off....hmm i need to find my screwdriver set.

I was pretty speechless when i saw how much dirt and grime had gathered. its something ive seen done plenty of times on other polos and lupos of the same age, but ive never seen such a big built up of dirt that i had. bad really. but i love a good bit of dirt i can clean up lol

yeah, its just held on in a number of places by little black clips. just takes a bit of wiggling and pulling, and the occashional help from a little screwdriver just to ease the clips off. but all fairly straight forward. if i can do it, anyone can
haha i actually wouldnt have been suprised if id found something sprouting amongst all that dirt!!

22.03.2012 - Engine Bay

Decided to do a bit more cleaning

Not so much grime and dirt this time. mainly half a trees worth of leaves and twigs






hmm best go buy a new one soon

Got the hoover out and sucked up the majority of leaves and dirt, as well as grabbing handfuls out from the very back.

used the same cleaning method as yesterday. as well as some 303 Aerospace on the plastics.







and a bit more 303, after a good scrub down and wash.

Going to to the big scuttle clean Sunday on mine, so many leaves and crap in there lol,

As for the handles there is one bolt on the inside of the door shut edge inline with the handle, should have a blank over the torque bolt, simply unbolt the torque and it should pull away towards you then slide it to the rear of the car, gently lift out and there you have a handle hopefully. Nice and simple, well mine come out like that

Polo and I are really arn't on speaking terms at the moment!!!


After fixing the Gear Linkage problem, an odd noise started to come from the front right wheel. Started of quite quiet, and we couldn’t find a reason for the noise, so I kept on driving in the hope that it would either

1. Go away on its own (fat chance)
2. Get worse so we would actually be able to tell what it was

Oh! An not to mention, when we tried to take the wheel off, the Locking Wheel Nut key slipped, and completely when mush! Lost all shape completely. Tried to find the code (in the packaging – which was in the shed) but no luck. Contacted McGuard and they said I could send the broken key to them and they matched it up. But it could take weeks for the new key to arrive….

Quickly enough the sound got worse. Was actually when I was sat in traffic, rolling forward that I realised the sound was stupidly loud and kindda sounded like think rubber rubbing.

So the wheel needed off!

Brought a Laser Locking wheel nut Remover kit from Halfords. Turns out though that the Tool is too fat to fit in the holes of the RXIIs! Theres a stupid little ridge (which has no purpose at all) that just makes it a little too big.
So out came the Angel Grinder!!! And Jack shaved off the edge (yeah we were pretty despite)
But it worked! So with the old Locking wheel nuts out (and the new set I brought, in) the car went to VW





26.03.2012 Car went into VW. Was told that things may be a bit more serious then we thought ( I was hoping my CV boot might have popped off or was just something they could fix within an hour or so)
Ended up getting a lift home in a New New Beetle (which quickly turned into me test driving it muhaha….well I had to cheer myself up some way )







27.03.2012 Found movement in the driveshaft. Ordered a new driveshaft

28.03.2012 Master Tech went to fit the Driveshaft, only to find its wrong. Ordered another

29.03.2012 Jack and Matt fit the newly arrived driveshaft. Take it for a test drive only to have the sound start up again. *hits head on wall*
Fingers crossed it’s the Wheel Bearing, I replaced it as part of my winter work on the car, so this will be covered under warranty.
Possibly went wrong again because of the driveshaft being how it was?!? I dunno. I just hope it is the problem.


Jack and I ended up having that dreaded ‘if you have any more problems with this car V, you seriously need to think about getting rid of it, its for the best’ conversations.

Pretty much all of the suspension has been replaced, the clutch has, and the gearbox by the owner before Jack, as long as I keep up to date with my oil changes and belt changes, theres no reason *touch wood* that anything would happen to the engine. So really, I cant see what else can go wrong with the car. *so just jinxed myself*
But, my pockets arnt very full at the moment (or ever, really – sucky job) so if Polo doesn’t play ball, and decides to present me with another big problem any time in the near future, he will more then likely get broken *sob* but it seems like the only way I’ll get back some of the money ive put in.

So yes, fingers crossed, a new wheel bearing sorts the noise, and no more problems arise for a few months!! As I really couldn’t face parting with him. – seriously its like having to have a pet put down. You have to decide weither its worth trying to save it, or if its for the best that you just put it down.

Ah verity this is pants, does it only do it when moving? My noise was low gearbox oil. Maybe summin to check... Inner cv joint perhaps....

So gutted for you if you do have to break her. I love your car and the thought of it being parted out is awful. The whole way youve tried to keep it OEM+ I think just really works well on 6n2 gti's.

Heres hoping it something simple, tyres rubbing??

Not having much luck of late huh. Soon it will get to a time when you've changed pretty much everything.

I say give him/her one more chance.

I'll deffinatly suggest that tomoro when they're sticking the new bearing on. Deffinatly worth a check either way, better safe then sorry

Thank you so much for the lovely comment! I've always thought VW do a great job with designing the 6n2, so have never felt the need to change much personally, so just adding little bits from New VW is the way forward for me

It's true! So much of the car is technically new! Lol
I wish I could win the lottery/get a decent job. Then I could just chuck another £2-3k at it and literally replace every little thing, you know, just get it all out the way, and know it'll be good for another 10 years lol

I'll always find a way to get the money to fix him, but it's getting to the point where the poor guys at VW have given up so much free time each to work on him, they probably hate me! Haha


New bearing arrived Yesterday, so will hopefully be going on tomorrow. I'm PRAYING that that fixes it, I don't want him sat at VW any longer. I want him back

Jack picks me up from work in a golf convertible (horrible car) and takes me to VW. Sat aroun for 1/2 in the waiting room then jack comes over 
"the new wheel bearing hasn't stopped the noise"
Urgh!!
 I was warned again, if it was going to be a costly fix then it wasn't aloud to be done, and the car would not be coming home to me *sobs*
Actually went home to look at GTIs for sale online and it made me feel sick! Lol odd I know.

8.30 get a text saying 'come get the car'
Was so so excited! Ha! 
Tom (one of the techs and currently my favourite person in the world) worked out what was wrong and came in this morning and fixed it straight away for me.

And the problem.........
The bolts in my RXII had come loose! 
(the little ones that hold the two parts of the wheel together-- not the 4 bolts/nuts that hold the wheel onto the car)
So the wheel was basically floating - which explains why the sound only happened when the car was being driven. 

Can't believe (but immensely pleased) it was such an easy fix!! 
Annoyingly I have some new RXIIs waiting to go on. If I had of got them on sooner this wouldn't have happened! Oh well! 



Here's Tom tightening up the three other wheels for good measure. 
And He even said "you known V, If didn't have a baby on the way I'd get one of these cars"
The boy knows his stuff  




Was so excited to have him back i took him down to our nearest shell (40 min round trip) and filled him up.
Driving him is again amazing! And having a car with a decent audio set up again is sooo nice!
