I went for 3 door manual in flat black, with the convenience pack, winter pack and sports pack.
It's arrived! Don't forget to let the oil get up to temp before booting it while it's running in. Takes a lot longer than the water temp...

You access this value on the central screen between the Speedo and rev counter by choosing the driving data icon and then using the up and down arrows on the right hand side of the steering wheel to get through to the oil temp.

Have fun - I'll keep an eye out for it around Cardiff :-)
I haven't booted it yet... I was going to ask you guys for advice about breaking it in first. What's the ideal oil temp?

i wait until the oil is up to about 80 degrees C before giving it some proper beans.

most of the running in was done when it left the factory being loaded and unloaded on and off boats/trucks

Yep 80°C for me too. Just based on the feeling that it's taken enough time by the time it reaches that temperature. I does seem to settle down at about 103 °C when fully warmed up.

Anyone opt for the torquier manual? What are your thoughts on the extra torque in comparison to other rides, is it noticeable?

You can reliably pull in all gears at any time just about unless really going for economy.

interesting as my mates have a new fiesta st3 and ibiza cupra, but the polo is much better for all situations and in any gear

Hi there had my gti 3weeks now and love it :D apart from how high it sits does anybody know of any lowering springs out yet for the new gti with the 1.8tsi?

Also is there a way of getting album art to show from your iPhone when connected via Bluetooth? It shows up if I'm connected via usb but not Bluetooth which is annoying?

Thanks in advance

I find the album art issue annoying. Play ipod via usb and the art shows, via an sd card or phone bluetooth only some of it appears.
Found loads of people on the audi forum complaining of the same. I think it's all about embedded images etc. Some of the ways to correct it seem laborious , so for the moment I can't be asked. Ipod and usb lead for me at the moment.
The previous GTI had an ipod connection in the glove box but this model doesn't. ....backward step in my opinion.

As I've said before there seem to be a few new GTI's here in Warwickshire. Came face to face in slow moving traffic with a red one like mine , only difference I have the pano roof he didn't. We did smile at each other. :)

Picked mine up to day and hit the road North from Edinburgh. Can't believe the pull in every gear, just put your foot down and away you go. Interior is clean and nice to be in. Good speed and there is a nice difference with the Sport mode enabled, not a big fan of the sound actuator but with the radio up it's not too much of a bother. Averaged 37mpg coming up the road but wasn't pushing on too much, 27 in and around town.

All in all I'm very happy with it, and much prefer the look to that of a Golf.

I've just done a trip from Cardiff to London and back. The car is superb on the motorways - achieving just over 45mpg - about 10 more than Golf GTI does!

Overtaking is a breeze - 70 to 90mph happens in no time at all and it's very smooth too.

I really wish I'd gone for the cruise control option though as I often found myself drifting past 80mph.

In my 15 years of driving I've never had points on my licence... Not sure how long that's going to last.

Mine has been brought forward to that date too, I think we'll be waiting about a month from then so can expect it late August I imagine?

This shall also be interesting as mine is being built on the same date, so be good to see if dealer predictions are correct. Mine reckons 5 weeks from build date to being ready to take home. Though I don't want to take mine till end of September mind to let lease finish on the UP! so no rush! Cannot wait :D
