its been buggin me since ive driven the car now n its really gettin to me. im gettin about 120 miles to a FULL TANK! i took it in yesterday to get the clutch cablr changed and the guy said he'd sorted the timing out, so i was like brilliant. i had to pik it up after when he wasnt there, but when i drove of and home it was lagging so badly that i thought my handbrake was still on!
whats wrong? i need this sorting soon, i cant afford to fill my tank every 3 days.

dave

temp sensor, lambda probe & the wiring for such are the usual places to start out.. maybe thermostat if you notice that the engine never really gets warm

what engine do you have? sounds like the car is in "limp-home" mode which occurs when ones of the sensors dies. and means about 17mpg! which even then is about 150 miles to a tank. Are you sure there isnt a big hole in it? I dont think the lambda will be at fault, in my experience the economy isnt affected that much when its not working. If its a GT my money would be on the throttle valve potentiometer.

maybe your ignition timing needs setting up then? get a new blue temperature sensor as a first test. theyre about £5 from GSF (£8 from volkswagen) it goes in the thermostat housing near your distributor and has a blue plug going to it. Potentially if this has stopped working altogether then you may find that has caused it to go into "limp-home" mode as well.
