Rev Counter

Hi,
I have a 1.3 CL, and I wanna fit a rev counter whats the best and cheapest way to do this?

Mk1/early mk2 golf GTi clocks with square dials, or mk2 polo coupe s clocks (better).. the golf clocks are in greater supply and cheaper, but the mk2 clocks have a handbrake / brake fluid warning light and a blue full beam headlamp light, which are both a good thing to have.. once you get them it's a case of removing the circuitry (not hard) and unbolting the speedo unit and substituting it for your original speedo to keep the mileage, then bolting it all back in again and you're good to go. No rewiring is necessary, it's already there as standard.

those golf ones will require some re-wiring. Only the polo ones (100mph speedo gives the polo ones away) are a direct swap.

Nope, mine are golf gti clocks and just plugged straight in.. only difference is a 120mph speedo (which I swapped for my original 100mph speedo anyway) and no brake warning light..
I'd steer clear of those ones though, they've got an MFA computer built in rather than just the normal digital clock, I highly doubt that'd be adaptable for a mk2. What you want is a standard set without the MFA display, with a digital clock instead.

the best way to go is as GC says..... MK2 polo Coupe S, and didnt the MK2 ranger have one?? they jus plug in, and if u dont want to touch the speedo.. and are not worried about the mileage.... jus note ur mileage and the new one down, and go by that... direct swap then!!

Yeah, that would be easiest.. but if you go down that route you'll have to install it with a trusted person of some sort with you who will confirm for the DVLA that it hasn't been clocked etc and that the mileage had changed to what you claim it has. Otherwise, chances are you'll get one out of a high mileage car and, as far as the government and any prospective buyers are concerned, your car's just gained thousands of miles that it's never covered..
