My polo seems to be drinking a lot of petrol....is this meant 2 be normal.

I filled up the tank to the notch just before 1/1 / full tank. This gave me 98 miles and the petrol now is the notch just before 1/2 / half tank already. i didnt fill it up from reserve i filled it up from the notch after reserve. Is this normal? its a 1.4 litre CL engine. Another thing is that i noticed that a flexi pipe coming from the place just below the rocker cover is not tightly fitted (flush fitted) to the connector, there is a gap, is this normal or is it meant to be screwed completely to place. could this be anything to do with this??what is this pipe its going to the intake, do you reckon i should push it back on, does it need to be clamped as it is not clamped. That flexi pipe is the hot air intake, which helps cold starts. Or more specifically, it helps warm up the engine quicker in cold weather.

I took mine off completely, including the metal bit that's over the exhaust.

It won't have an effect on the fuel consumption - perhaps the Lambda sensor (or whatever it's called) is broken?

Looking at my exhaust, it can be seen that it is still shiny steel and not corroded. The owner said that he changed this thing init as well when it was rear ended, think it was the catalyst or whatever. There some stuff on the net saying that this lambda sensor would be changed whilst this would be done though. Anyways wheres it located and how can you check whether it is still functioning??

Is the fuel consumption i described in my previous post (above) good, cos some1 wid a golf said what u complaining about...thats good economy for a 1.4. Any1 else wid a 1.4 cl what do you think??? is this similar 2 ures???? As i still think its quite high,

but i have only driven diesels before and so am likely to think this about any petrol engine i think!!!

the fuel guage can be quite inaccurate as regards the 1/2, 3/4 etc markings vs it's actual contents (especially the red reserve line!). the only decent way of checking your mpg is to fill it up to the first pump "click", record miles driven (make it >100 if possible) and then how many litres needed to re-fill the tank to the same level from the same pump...
