i have a 98 polo 1.0 that has a problem starting it has been to VW main dealer a couple of times and they say nothing is wrong with it when cold it turns over for an age before it starts then i get a cloud of white smoke when it does start, the only way to start it is with the throtle wide open as i was told this is the way to start it if flooded as the ECU has a setting for this

any ideas would be a great help thought it may be the the water temp sensor
as i have tryed new plugs battery ect

mine used do the same but only in the cold and when i didnt let the car warm up properly before drivind. does yours happen when u first start the car or after a while ? mine dissapeared after a serious service (plugs fuel and oil filter distributor arm and spark plug leads)
