there should be a pierburg carb for your unless you find a weber replacement which would be a bargain.
what year is your polo?

The 1L and 1.1 engines had pierburg 1b3 carbs iirc this is different to the coupe S carb which is a 2b3 and no it wont give you a performance boost but it will make the engine run like a hamster on dope.
Unless you find a webber (also found on 1300 mk1 golfs) it isnt worth taking the carbs of anything else.
The 32DMTR webber is a straight swap (with an adaptor plate) onto the standard inlet manifold and will give 5-6Bhp approx.
