Dont bother cutting it !!!!
Get your self some MDF and use your old one as a template and make your own one from scratch mate, im no DIYer but i made mine myself and it works great.
You can get the special carpet (acoustic carpet??) type stuff to cover your shelf with from Halfords as well, that way if you ever want to sell your polo you can keep the new shelf and your speakers.
it will look a lot tidyer too mate, the chavs wont be able to see your speakers too, which is an obvious bonus. That way you car appears to be standard

i think it looks neater as well.
Remember all it takes is a half pissed up chav to see your speakers in the rear shelf and smash the window and run away with them, so not worth it geez.

How did you hinge the DIY shelf? Parcel shelfs have pivot arms, and sometimes a dip in the shape of the shelf down to that pivot point.
Enlighten me, I'm interested! I want to make a stealth shelf...

Hey,
I agree with clavin on this one - make your own!
I was looking around for ages when i had my mk2 golf - for a retail stealth shelf it'll set you back around £100 but if you manage a DIY jobbie then it'll be alot cheaper mine worked out about £22-25 in the end (shelf)
havent got round to the polo shelf yet but should be having a go shortly - a set of VIBE SA-K50s & SR50s are going rear shelf
...as for the shelf clips, i just took them off of the original and put them onto the newly made one
Go for it, if you go wrong then you can always start again - MDF is cheap these days! wouldnt buy the carpet from halfords tho - rip off n a half! try ebay you can usually do well there, cost you around £6-10

I switch the fade forwards to only the front speakers when I have passengers in the back - apparently its a bit hard for them to hear any conversation going on with the rear speakers going
I usually have the fade set to 2 towards the rear, makes use of that big empty space in the cabin to create a little more bass (which is set to 6). Best thing to do is to play about with balance/fade/bass/treble and find a happy medium. Then don't let anyone touch it

lol
i tend to fade mine more into the back as well, but mines more like '8' in the back rather than '2', like u say Si_Gti s'all about making use of the boot for a lickle bit of bass
mwah !

Mines faded all the way to the front, i think the back speakers sound poor compared to the fronts. My rainbow SLC components will be here this weekend tho
