Yeah that's the one you can get in South Africa isn't it? Can't remember where exactly.

It was in one of the VW magazines a few months ago as well as a couple of old posts on here.

The CitiGolf, it's cool.

It's a bit strange though having a modern dash in an old car like that, but it works.

Yeah, these guys import from South Africa and only now have started advertising. Hope to hit it off big time. There was an article about them in Auto Express a few weeks back.

Can only see the hardcore VW peeps buying them though.

I would have one in jazz blue (fave vw colour) if they came in 3 door, it's 5 door only I think.

Not sure about that dash though, looks like it's been thrown in!

Yeah, the dash is a bit tacky.. somehow the steering wheel and the dash don't seem to match, it's like bits of a '05 BMW thrown together with bits of '04 fiat punto..
I presume, though, that it uses the same mounts as the original dash ;)

The power and performance are quite good but the fuel economy is scary when you work it back from L/100km! (done it last time the citigolf popped up) - in town but especially on the open road (it is a *city* golf after all, lol). Think they're using up some leftover old skool engines...... and could have done with maybe keeping mk1 facelift / mk2 going instead of the bare original, as massive improvements were made to the aerodynamics (partially why the very, very first GTis weren't so quick as they could have been)

Looks like the Citi Golf has the same 1.6 engine as Brazilian 9N Polos (74KW/101bhp).

Km/L or MPG is pretty scary, indeed (I'm scared after I compared my 1.6 Polo to my brother's 1.4 206).

Anyway it's a good start if you're into mkI Golfs. You could make a GTI from the right bits - and one with a brand-new chassis, not a crashed and abused 25-year-old one.

Plus the engine's modern (sequential fuel injection, possibly Euro III at least - Brazilian Polos are Euro IV).

All in all, I'd buy one (for the South African price anyway) and mod it to my satisfaction from eBay parts. :D
