Interior light not coming on :o( '92 Polo

Hey all, newbie here with a newbie question (maybe)
I just got my first car, a 1992 Polo Coupe, but it's got a few "issues". The main one, the only one I am really bothered about is the interior light won't work.

I have changed the bulb, changed the fuse (and checked all others, even though the radio is supposed to be on the same fuse but works fine). I even went to my local scrappys and got hold of another light section (the bit that goes into the ceiling) Any other places I should be looking for the problem or does it sound like the wire itself?

Cheers all, expect many more posts from me

Drivers door switch?

Does it come on if the passenger door is opened?

No, it doesn't come on at all, even when I flick the switch to basic ON.

Checked power getting to it?

Cheap multi meter is a damn handy thing to have in your tool box

Took it back to the garage I got the car from and the guy says "I will get replacement unit, that's the problem"
Means that the one I got from the scrappys has the same problem then

Although now I notice a nice puddle under the trim in the passenger footwell, explains why the car takes about 20 mins to defrost in the morning lol.

Maybe the light is really cold and is not working out of spite.

Also just noticed that the lights behind the heater controls don't come on either :x Hopefully they are on the same circuit, although my manual says not :? Don't have a ciggie lighter so I will just assume it would be the same.

also explains why your electrics are playing up if the waters entering from the bulkhead it will be leaking onto the relays fuses etc. get the garage to sort it

Yeah the leak thing is now sorted, garage pulled out a heap...and I mean a HEAP...of leaves from under the bonnet. Not noticed more water yet, although still getting rid of bit of soaked in water from the padding under the footwell.
I think it happened when I went through the car wash  Also noticed the little plastic tray under the bonnet vents (for the rain run off) has a crack in it, probably didn't help, gonna fix it in a coupla days.
The only thing wrong with the electrics is the interior light and the heater control light, which have both been since I got the car :(

Check...double check...triple check...call garage.
