hi, am new here and ive got a silver 1.0 mk5 polo (slow i know but i'm 17!) ave done a few little mods to it but i was wandering if anyone could point me in the direction of a cheap way of dropping it 50+ . so far i have only found springs which will drop it between 35-40 mm and i dont really have the money for coilovers.
cheers dan

i wouldn't go any lower than -40mm on springs! my advice would be to save up and get coilovers! they are ace!

Hey mate,
Welcome, well regarding dropping your car, I have some Eibach Sportline springs that Eibach say will drop the car 50mm however I don't feel that they have dropped a full 50mm, most like 40mm.
Have a look round some sites there may be cheaper springs that drop more around but if you go more than 50mm drop you will need to upgrade your shocks as the ride will very harsh.
I'm sure other guys will provide you with more help!
Damnit Dubpolo, you got there before me! ha ha ha!

hello and welcome fellow 1 litre owner
yup no go and im still driving one at 21yrs of age!
yeah any further than -40mm your gonna ideally have to uprate your existing dampers.
yup Eibach seem to be the only company that do -50mm springs (speculation whether they actually lower 50mm, thanks cyhliu

)
and i agree wit andy get some coilies

U alright Dan. Welcome to the site. I was in your postion a year ago - limited funds in the first year of driving and i went for the -50mm eibach sportline springs and spax dampers. They seriously make a fantastic combination --> Excellent handling, not too bumpy, approx -45mm lowering. Great value. I have had these springs and dampers on my car for 6 months and took them off before winter. I am actually selling them as now I am going for the eurostyle look with smaller wheels but a bigger drop using some coilovers (which are admitadly very pricey, but now i have a good job its not so much of an issue) If your interested in the springs and dampers let me know. I could arrange postage as cheap as possible. Check out my other post 'things to sell'

Well to be honest i havent got a reseve price or anything. If your interested make me an offer and we can go from there.
About the smoothing of the body work, how much is that going to cost you? Always something i have wanted to do, but has always seemed way too expensive. Would u just have the front and rear bumpers smoothed with the side rubbing strips?

orite there's a place where a live which do a really good job of bodywork but its pretty costly. am hopefully gettin the side strips, the boot and the back bumper smoothed and a bad boy bonnet extension added, money dependent a new front bumper will go on as well. ave not priced it all yet but will be in the next few days and try n get back 2 u.

All you guys are wusses.
the mk5 chassis will handle -130mm with no arch work so long as you use the right offset and the right tyres.
the thing that limits the lowering is that the drive shaft hits the chassis leg.
