MK4 Locks and ignition??

Im thinking of just investing on a full lock set as i have my drivers side door barrel almost dead and i only have one key which i fear of loosing and it will cost me an arm and a leg.
A kit comes with two front handles, boot lock ,glove box lock and ignition barrel and two keys. i might be able to get this stuff for about £35 new, well a mate said he knows some1 or has 1 kit. If i replace the ignition barrel will i still need the keys to be coded with the imobiliser of car or something. the transponder keys come with. i want to fit these myself and avoid visiting the friendly guys at VW (£££££££££££££££££££££££££)
