As the summer draws closer im starting to think of what i can spend my hard earned on for the polo
At the mo its a standard silver 1.4 16v (6n2) but im thinking of getting some gti spec goodies for it - alloys, rear spoiler, front grille, and lower front splitter etc. I dont want to touch the engine as that would effect my insurance premium too much
Im toying with the idea of badging it as a GTI but due to insurance purposes i may decide against doing so, would it be a better idea to stick with the 16v badges on the front grille and hatch?
What are peoples opinions of "replica" cars? Will my insurance rocket (im 19 with 2yrs no claims)
Sorry about all the questions guys, just need some guidance!
Cheers

cams, chip, port polish, gas flowed and skimmed head these are all things the insurance wont pick up on

I'm never keen on "replica" cars they always end up looking like "sheep in wolves clothing"
however I am all for making the car look better using OE Bits but it's the subtle touches that make it better.
So GTi Grill and a 16V badge, lower splitter, Black VW badge all get my vote for the front.
Rear GTi Spoiler also and then some BBS RX2's with a small drop on springs just to stop the arches looking gappy and the car looking like it's on stilts.
What colour is the car?

Kinda looking to do the same thing to mine, i also have the same car as you, was just wondering, anyone got a specific place i can get a 16V badge for the front and rear of my car, plus how much would it cost?

don't badge it as a GTi! it ant one so don't say it is! but go for the rest! OEM+ look rocks. using standard parts off other cars works.

I think you should do what you want! Modding is about individuality, following the rest of the flock won't necessarily get you noticed...doing something different stands out, it may not be good but then again it may not be bad!
I agree though, not changing the engine shouldn't really affect your insurance...but check with the insurers beforehand and then you will know where you stand!

I wouldn't badge as a GTi, cos it's not one.
I'm all for modding car's externally to make them look like a more sporty version, especially if it's for insurance reasons.(we've all gotta start somewhere).
But i can't go it when a car is badged something it's not. Get a nice 16v badge for it. Or go stealthy and remove them all so you have people guessing.

Cheers for the replies guys, its silver by the way.
Im going to go with the OEM+ look but remove all the badges as opposed to going for the gti or 16v badges. I contacted my insurance broker and they told me if i badged it as a gti it would be more attractive to thieves, and if it got stolen then my insurance may well be void
