Although I have seen someone is attempting 19's, as a student I think i'll stick with 17's.
Can anyone help me out though and tell me what arch mods are needed to accomadate 17's? Also, is the only way to avoid major rubbing coilovers or can I get away with 40mm lowering springs?
thanks,
Jon

I think you can drop the polo -40mm with 17" without rubbing...lower thant that you'll need the modify the archs.
I'm not sure, but every polo I've seen with stock archs and 17 were only lowered -40mm

Its all a matter of how extreme you want to go...
This months Revs magazine features a Mk4 lowered 100mm on 18s - but coilovers were needed and there is NO suspension travel, so be prepared to have your teeth shaken out. (PS this isn't his regular driving height)
My car is lowered 40mm on 17s with Koni springs and dampers. I only get scrubbage on full lock while reversing (but not going forward?!

can anyone explain this?) or when i'm thrashing it down country lanes (i love derbyshire!

) To get this the arches were ground back and the arches flared. a good bodyshop should be able to do this for you - JBS in chesterfield (01246 550400) are one company to try - both me and Josh can vouch for the quality. It cost me £188.00
Hope that helps!
